Dear Rotarian

We are thrilled to have been able to raise $4850 for the Rotary
Australia Drought Relief Response through our boutique winery.

But the drought continues, with long range forecasts indicating that the double influence of El Niño and a Positive Indian Ocean Dipole will result in below average rainfall.

So we have decided to continue fund raising efforts with a special Rotary wine offer. This offer is exclusive to Rotary members.
As an introduction to Poonawatta we have put together an exclusive Rotary six bottle collection of premium single vineyard and regional wines, representing some of the best from Eden Valley.
Valued at $260, this special Rotary collection is just $217 – a saving of $43.

Apply the ROTARY coupon and a further 10% is deducted. Your six bottles are now $195.30, a total saving of 25%.
Delivered freight free across Australia.

Plus $21.70 from the placement of your order is accrued for Rotary Drought Relief.

This offer is available until 15th August unless allocation sold out beforehand.

What's in the special Rotary six bottle collection?

Poonawatta The Eden Riesling 2018 RRP $28.00
Made from our single vineyard Riesling planted in 1972. “Bright yellow colour, intense in the glass. A concentrated bouquet of limoncello, nettle and red apples. Luscious when sipped, it's forward and slurpable.” The Real Review.

Poonawatta The Cuttings Shiraz 2015 RRP $49.00
Established from original 1880 vine cuttings, planted ’78 to ’82. “Dark-cored fruit with hoisin charm. This is fresh. Loads of red berry lift, curbed by sluicy oak. A wine that shows winemaking - balanced and full of energy. Classy.” The Real Review.

Poonawatta Four Corners Shiraz 2015 RRP $38.00
Our regional showcase of Eden Valley Shiraz. “Eden Valley tattooed across its chest. Florals, blue/red/black berries. Hints of mint and anise. A soft-edged roll of tannin, like thunder in the distance. It's seductive from start to finish.” Halliday Wine Companion.

Poonawatta Four Corners Cabernet 2015 RRP $38.00
Our regional showcase of Eden Valley Cabernet. “Blackcurrant and plum flavours come pure and unbridled but it's the assorted undercurrents of loganberry, earth, tobacco and dust that lend this wine a distinctive character. It's complex in a quiet-ish way, fruit holding sway, sweet oak as an attractive garnish. It's very nicely done.” Halliday Wine Companion.

Poonawatta Insurance Block Shiraz 2017 RRP $42.00
1880 cuttings grafted onto phylloxera resistant root stock, to protect and insure our unique 1880 clone. “It's fresh and medium-weight. Dark Asian spice - soy! On the palate it's more red-fruited; cored, cloves - serious. Way too soon. Obvious pedigree.” The Real Review.

Poonawatta 1919 Shiraz 2016 RRP $65.00
This old vine Shiraz is one of Eden Valley’s icon vineyards, established in 1919. It's bright and it's purple. Ripe and deeply-cored mulberries lead the bouquet, quality oak in the background, along with dark spice. Delicious, still-young shiraz - the balance is incredibly impressive - soy, ripe plums, and toasty oak. Great stuff”. The Real Review.

Why did a small family owned boutique wine producer decide to raise funds for drought relief?
A while back I was chatting to my mother and brother, about to sell another mob of cattle to fund the purchase of more hay to feed their remaining herd. Beautiful cows & heifers sold due to failed rains, no feed and dry dams. The vicious cycle of selling stock to buy stock feed and truck in water, then selling more stock - and on it goes.  And yet here in SA, those doing it tough are still mostly better off than those in the eastern states who have endured years of crippling drought.
It got me thinking; how might we possibly help through our boutique wine business?  In October I contacted Rotary to flesh out an idea, and with a great response the Poonawatta Rotary Drought Relief partnership was borne. We allocated a significant portion of our 2014 vintage 95-point Cuttings Shiraz, offered through our Poonawatta Club and through Rotary channels. Unfortunately sales did not reach their potential, but we did manage to raise just shy of $5000, which was donated in May 19.
