We are having a great year at Rosebank Farms,

growing chickens and turkeys on pasture on our home farm, embarking on a four year research project this month in partnership with Agriculture Canada (funded by the Organic Institute of Canada) and expanding operations onto a new satellite farm.  

We are pleased to welcome Julia Merriman from Brussels, Belgium, who arrived on the farm July 31 to do her first undergraduate internship.  Julia is already learning new skills and asking lots of questions as she tries to decide on the course of her future studies. She chose our farm because of the size, vertical integration (feed mill, pastured production, processing and direct marketing) but also because of Andrea’s food activism.   She will be helping us set up the Organic Institute research trial for the chicks arriving on August 19.

Angeline Hallam, a young mother operating on her third generation family farm in Spallumcheen, is the latest member of our new farmer mentoring program.  Angeline is also working with us in the processing unit (Steve and Andrea have leased it from our North Okanagan Poultry Processing partners for the 2014 season) and is interested in becoming more involved and invested in running the processing business. The new farmer mentoring program has allowed us to grow more poultry while controlling the feed, supervising the animal welfare and providing an income for young or new producers. Brenda & Bernard Dewonck of Lake Country are continuing to pasture chickens for us at their farm, adding much needed organic matter to their sandy, depleted soils for the third year in a row.

Steve Meggait, of Fresh Valley Farms in Spallumcheen is continuing to operate as a satellite farm and is expanding production as a result of his success last year (his first year on the fourth generation family farm). We established our own feed mill in partnership with Steve last summer and have put up more grain storage bins and upgraded the facility this year. We are getting ready to receive the first of the 2014 harvest from local certified organic and in-transition to organic grain growers.  With your continued support, we are working hard to re-build the local agricultural economy. Plus, we are really enjoying working with a team of farmers all focused on continuous improvement.

We are proud to deliver pre-sold fresh, frozen and smoked chickens and turkeys throughout the North Okanagan & Shuswap.  Our products can also be picked up at the farm. Prices are on a per lb. basis and birds are available whole in sizes from 4–8 lbs. We also sell chicken livers and hearts by request, cut-up chickens in batches of 5 birds or by the piece. Smoked chicken is available by breast, leg or whole. Ground turkey and Sicilian turkey sausages are available in 1 lb. packages. Online Order Form >
