Andrew Leader runs the "Twists and Turns" low speed manoeuvring sessions that Ulysses set up some years ago.
They are run on the first Saturday of the month at Kelston Girls High School, 1 Archibald Rd, Kelston, West Auckland 0602.
All North Harbour members are invited to attend.
It’s a great opportunity to practice all those key low speed skills in a safe, supportive environment. For instance when did you last practice an emergency stop? Plenty of skilled riders attend to help with technique and encouragement and they are not judgemental. Better to practice where there are people to help pick the bike up if you lay it down!
The school entrance is first on your right as you turn off Great North Road into Archibald Road:
Cheers

It's time to have your say
Levy rates are changing. Now is your chance to have your say. Levy consultation opens today and will run through to 5pm 19 October 2016.
Jump online and visit shapeyouracc.co.nz and join the conversation by letting us know what you think - after all, it's your ACC, have a hand in shaping it.
Starting this year, we'll be proposing and reviewing new levy rates for a two-year period, rather than every year. This mean during this year's consultation, we're looking for feedback on our proposed levy rates for the two year period 2017/18 and 2018/19.
Here are a few things we're proposing:
- Reduce the average Work levy from $0.80 to $0.72 (10% reduction)
- Increasing the average Earners' levy from $1.21 to $1.25 (3% increase)
- Reduce the average Motor Vehicle levy (excluding the Motorcycle Safety levy) from $130.26 to $113.94 (13% reduction)
- Maintain the motorcycle levy and motorcycle safety levy
- Enhance the Experience Rating programme.
We're taking a new approach to helping create healthy and safe workplaces.
During last year's levy consultation, we indicated that our workplace incentive products Workplace Safety Discount (WSD) and Workplace Safety Management Practises (WSMP) were being reviewed. From 31 March 2017, WSD and WSMP will close. You can find out more about this here.
We're taking a new approach to helping create healthy and safe workplaces. We're going to work with businesses to create tailored and cost-effective options for supporting workplace safety.
You can find out more and let us know what you think at shapeyouracc.co.nz/saferworkplaces. If you'd like to be involved in developing our new approach, you can also let us know on this page.
We hope you'll take the time to join the conversation and have your say.
Kind regards,
ACC Levy Team

Dr. Geezer’s Clinic
An old doctor geezer became very bored in retirement and decided to re-open his medical clinic. He put a sign up outside that said: "Dr. Geezer's clinic. Get your treatment for $500, if not cured, get back $1,000."
Doctor "Young," who was positive that this old geezer didn't know beans about medicine, thought this would be a great opportunity to get $1,000. So he went to Dr. Geezer's clinic.
Dr. Young: "Dr. Geezer, I have lost all taste in my mouth. Can you please help me?
Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in Dr. Young's mouth."
Dr. Young: Aaagh !! -- "This is Gasoline!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your taste back. That will be $500."
Dr. Young gets annoyed and goes back after a couple of days figuring how to recover his money.
Dr. Young: "I have lost my memory, I cannot remember anything."
Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in the patient's mouth."
Dr. Young: "Oh, no you don't, -- that is Gasoline!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your memory back. That will be $500."
Dr. Young (after having lost $1000) leaves angrily and comes back after several more days.
Dr.Young: "My eyesight has become weak --- I can hardly see anything!!!!
Dr. Geezer: "Well, I don't have any medicine for that so, here's your $1000 back." (giving him a $10 bill)
Dr. Young: "But this is only $10!
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You got your vision back! That will be $500."
Moral of story -- Just because you're "Young" doesn't mean that you can outsmart an "old Geezer".
Remember: Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to tick us off.

Motorcycle Tips and Tricks

YOU DON'T have to have the mechanical know-how of a MotoGP technician to perform simple home-servicing tasks; some decent tools and a little common sense are all you need to keep your bike in tip-top shape.
Ideally, get hold of a workshop manual for your machine for a better understanding of how each task should be carried out. Most will give pictures detailing each part of the process; a good manual will also list the tools you'll need to complete the job.
Like a chef's knives, using quality tools are half the battle to a successful job, so avoid using the underseat toolkit if you can.
Obviously, if you're not 100 per cent comfortable working on your own bike then ask a knowledgeable mate to watch over you.
CLEANING
STEP 1 Treat painted surfaces (gas tank, fairings, fenders) gently—use mild detergent, a soft clean cloth, and warm water.
STEP 2 Chrome parts can be treated like paint, but follow up with chrome polish.
STEP 3 Wheels invariably need brushwork, just like your teeth. Brake dust is tenacious, but soap, water, and a cleaner with a brush will do the job.
STEP 4 Bikes have plenty of nasty, greasy parts, too. Here, the solution is chemical warfare. Some of your best friends aren’t cleaners at all, but oils and solvents like WD-40. Spraying down really manky bits like final-drive sprockets, the underside of the engine, the swingarm, etc. can help loosen that nasty black grime. Follow up with a power washer and a solvent-based cleaner. If you need to do any localized scrubbing, use brushes you've reserved only for this purpose—never use the gunk brushes on the cleaner parts of your bike.
STEP 5 Dry off smooth, painted surfaces with clean towels or a chamois. With all their nooks and crannies, most bikes will look better if you first blast them dry with compressed air. If nothing else, the exhaust hose from a shop vac (an industrial vacuum cleaner) will blow most of the water off. A leaf blower works great for this.

A Message from Ulysses Zimbabwe
Good morning to you all,
My apologies for the delay in communicating with you.
I'm pleased to announce the contact details of the group that will handle all your booking requirements for the International.
We haven't done a block booking for accommodation because we feel that with the interest from around the world, each visitor will have their own budget requirements or not. Our aim is to get as many of you to come to this wonderful event at one of the seven wonders of the world so you can tailor your own budget requirements.
This will not impact on any communal events and you will not miss out on anything as a result of staying somewhere else.
As mentioned in my last communique the various events will all be at or start from different locations. All of this information will be forwarded to you well before the event once they have been finalised.
Nicky will handle all your requirements including any extra curricular activities at the Falls you would like to do. IE. bungee jumping, the swing, rafting etc. She will also be able to help you with any other tour arrangements you might want to do before or after the event.
Nicky Quinn
Director
Everywhere Africa
Email: nicky@everywhereafrica.com
Tel: +263 777 045 833
Skype: nickyglynn
Feel free to contact her and get the ball rolling.
I will keep you updated with more information as and when it happens.
Stay well.

A Message regarding Accommodation for the National Rally in Masterton over Easter 2017
Hello fellow Ulyssians,
The 2017 National Rally is being held in Masterton, Wairarapa over the Easter weekend.
Local motel accommodation is at a premium at this time so members wishing to attend the rally should book now!
* Most on line booking sites will indicate the Motels are full over this period.
* Members should Ring the Motels direct and indicate you are from the Ulysses Club as most (not all) motels are holding rooms for us.
There are a number of conflicting events now being held in Masterton over the Easter Weekend so accommodation is filling fast in Masterton and the the surrounding areas.
Remember - You can always cancel a booking but you can't always make one! ----------- Don't miss out! :-)
Greg Evans
Ulysses Wairarapa Branch Secretary (temp).

God's Plan for Aging
Most seniors never get enough exercise. In His Wisdom God decreed that seniors become forgetful so they would have to search for their glasses, keys and other things thus doing more walking. And God looked down and saw that it was good.
Then God saw there was another need. In His Wisdom he made seniors lose coordination so they would drop things requiring them to bend, reach & stretch. And God looked down and saw that it was good.
Then God considered the function of bladders and decided seniors would have additional calls of nature requiring more trips to the bathroom, thus
providing more exercise. God looked down and saw that it was good.
So if you find as you age, you are getting up and down more, remember it's
God's will. It is all in your best interest even though you mutter under your breath.
Nine Important Facts To Remember As We Grow Older
#9 Death is the number 1 killer in the world.
#8 Life is sexually transmitted.
#7 Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.
#6 Men have 2 motivations: hunger and hanky panky, and they can't tell them apart. If you see a gleam in his eyes, make him a sandwich.
#5 Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day. Teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks, months, maybe years
.
#4 Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in the hospital, dying of nothing.
#3 All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
#2 In the 60's, people took LSD to make the world weird. Now the world is weird, and people take Prozac to make it normal.
#1 Life is like a jar of jalapeno peppers. What you do today may be a burning issue tomorrow.
Please share this wisdom with others while I go to the bathroom.

Our Club Insurances have been renewed again for the coming year with AON.
Please note, our insurer has made particular mention that we communicate to all members that in the event of a incident that may require activating our insurance policy that the insured party (that's all of us as members of the Club) does NOT admit liability for, or settle any claim or incur any defence costs without the prior written consent of the insurer (that's AON). In other words admit nothing and immediately advise Natcom of the situation.
This information is posted on the links page of the Club website.
