Day 2 of the IHE-Europe Connectathon in Bochum, Germany saw the third IHE-EuropeSymposium take place with some 80 delegates for this outstanding meeting. A welcome from Lapo Bertini – the outgoing Vendor Co-Chair of IHE Europe – then a presentation from Prof. Peter Mildenberger - User Co-Chair of IHE-Europe about the world-wide impact and the importance of the spirit of IHE, introduced a number of presentations from representatives of the European Commission. These discussed the role IHE plays in eHealth matters in the processes of the European Commission - in particular the digital service infrastructure.
Top of the bill was Brigitte Zypries – Parliamentary State Secretary, German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy – she spoke on Digitisation – Potentials for the healthcare industry and discussed funding support of SMEs, for start-up and in recognition of innovations in the healthcare arena. “Interoperability is absolutely essential to improve the quality of patient care”, Zypries said.
As part of her short stay at the event she just had time to tour the Connectathon floor, meet Eric Poiseau – Master of Monitors – and see the interoperability marathon first hand. The morning concluded with an update on what is new in IHE from Alexander Berler and Charles Parisot, then Sang Il Kim from eHealth Suisse moderated a panel discussion which included shared experiences on Conformity Assessment from the first four participating companies – GE, Forecare, Lexmark and Athon.
