The Chic List March 2016
View this email in your browser
How's your week going? Did you watch the season finale of Downton Abbey? I enjoyed this season and my favorite character Lady Mary's journey to find love again.
This month's edition of The Chic List includes tips for improving relationships and building community. I encourage you to save some of the links to read when you have time. I use the Pocket App  for saving articles to read on my iPhone.
One of my goals for 2016 is to start back running. I'm sharing some resources and tips for runners. I'm planning to run a half marathon this year! I'm also excited about starting the Bulletproof diet. If you are curious about this program, check out the links included in the newsletter. If you have any good paleo recipes, please share them with me. Just hit reply to this email. I love hearing from you!
Speaking of food, have you heard of Sunday Suppers?
Just invite a few people over for a casual get-together. You can make something super simple or ask each guest to bring something. The fun part is to ask a few questions during the meal. It's a great way to build community.
I'm also excited about my blog. It's now mobile friendly, and you'll find a search engine in the upper right corner. Hopefully, this will make reading the posts much easier on mobile devices.
I hope you find some encouragement and useful information in this newsletter.

Thanks for reading!

P.S. If you like the newsletter, please share it with your friends!
Coming Up Next Month: Social Media

Behind the Curtain

I've been traveling to San Juan, Buffalo, San Diego, and Philadelphia over the last two months. I also had layovers in Portland, Omaha, and Ft. Lauderdale. I had a few reroutes and lots of delays. The best part of my job is spending a little time outside the hotel whenever possible. The weather in San Diego was perfect. I had dinner at my favorite restaurant, Queenstown Public House. I always order the Lamb Burger on a gluten-free bun. My favorite coffee shop is James Coffee in Little Italy. I had to finish my online flight attendant training, so the coffee shop was the perfect spot to stay motivated.
I took the public bus in San Juan to Ocean Park. I recommend the scenic ride on Bus D53. If you just want to go to San Juan, take T5. I stopped in Ocean Park for coffee at Hacienda San Pedro. If you are gluten-free, the almond cookies are tasty. I enjoyed lunch at Acapulco Taqueria Mexicano. The aqua frescos are very popular here.
During one of my layovers in Buffalo, I rode the city bus to Wegman's.  It's a great grocery store with an amazing hot foods section. One of the things I love to do is check out the local food markets. Since I enjoy cooking and baking, I usually find new products made locally. My favorite local chocolate is Blue Table Chocolate. The chocolate bars make great gifts!
I feel like Philadelphia is a second home. I've been visiting the city regularly for over ten years. I usually try a new coffee shop on each visit. I was anxious to try Bodhi since the beans are sourced from my favorite coffee, Stumptown. I was a little disappointed with the service. On another layover, I visited Menagerie for a cappuccino with almond milk and was not disappointed. If you stay in Old City, this is the one to visit.
I enjoyed visiting Portland Maine. I finally made it to Holy Donut. The donuts are made with potato flour! I recommend the sweet potato and sea salt donuts. Gluten-free donuts available. I stopped for coffee at Tandem. I enjoyed an early dinner at Duck Fat. I loved the kale and cheddar soup, and the duck fat fries dipping sauces are awesome! I used my Movie Pass at Nickelodeon Theatre to catch a movie. Then it was off to bed for a 3:45 A.M. wake-up call and a long day of flying all the way to the West Coast.
I enjoyed breakfast at Fresh First in Ft. Lauderdale. The menu is healthy and everything is gluten-free. The food is very good! The restaurant is located near the cruise port.
Culprit Cafe in Omaha is my favorite spot for a cup of coffee and breakfast. I also love the Beet Burger at Wilson and Washburn.
Market on South is a great new vegan market in Orlando. Stop by for vegan donuts in the morning. The lunch and dinner menu includes many healthy options. They also serve gluten-free items. I enjoy the benefits of the Orange County Public Library program. Did you know you can have books delivered to you home? Most public libraries offer this service, and it includes new releases. I also take classes at the Melrose Center. It's a state of the art facility offering a variety of courses.

Sunday Supper

I believe in Sunday Supper …

Because it brings my family, friends, & neighbors together to share joys and challenges.

Because it starts as one day and soon becomes more.

Because it teaches us the importance of unplugging and being present.

Because it makes me closer to the ones I love.

Because it allows us to nourish each other in both body and mind.

Because it creates cherished memories and traditions of togetherness.

Because it celebrates good food and homemade meals.

Because it cements a legacy of strong community.

This was spurred on by her realizing how she didn't know her own neighbors, so she took what felt like a risk and invited them all over for dinner. I love what happened after that. Neighbor's Table has taken off to ten states now, and she has the audacious goal to be in all 50 in just a few years. Find out how you can start your own Neighbor's Table HERE.

My Ten Best Buys of 2015
There's nothing quite as satisfying as when a product not only does what it's supposed to do but then far exceeds your expectations.  Here are the 10 best buys of last year (that I'd get over and over again).

1.    Beauty Chef: The Beauty Chef's products are my top supplements to aid digestion. I use The Beauty Chef Body Powder, The Beauty Chef Inner Glow Powder and The Beauty Chef Antioxidant Inner Beauty Boost. I order my products online at Cap Beauty.

2.    Apple Watch: I think it's great for travel and fitness.

3.    Reed Clark Travel Cashmere Scarf: When I travel, I never fly without a travel blanket. It keeps me from freezing on a plane. I love the design of this one, and you can never go wrong with cashmere. They come in their own envelope that you can fold the blanket back into when you are done using it. The envelope also doubles as a cover for a travel-size pillow. I love that I can also wear it as a scarf or shawl on my trips.

4.    Bulletproof Vanilla Bars: The best tasting power bars without all the bad ingredients.

5.    Soho Tote: I finally found the perfect tote bag for travel. It’s the ultimate tote for women with pockets to keep things organized, enough space a change of clothes, camera, laptop and a chic, minimal design in my favorite color, pink. Other colors are available.

6.    Dawn Levy Coat: I love my Dawn Levy Fergie Coat.

7.    Parachute Bedding: Luxury Linens at an affordable price.

8.     Alice Bow Insoles: Ever wonder how the Duchess of Cambridge endures standing in high heels for hours on end? She wears Alice Bow Insoles. Each insole is designed to cushion the ball of the foot and boasts high-quality padding wrapped in premium Italian leather. There are stickies on the back of each insole to hold it in place if needed, plus, they're shaped to be worn with open-toed shoes as well.

9.    Sun Potion: I recently discovered Sun Potion. Sun Potion brings the highest quality tonic herbs, algae, greens, and mushrooms available to all in single-ingredient, pure powder, and whole food form.  One of my favorite products is He Shou Wu, which has a history of use as a longevity, anti-aging, blood-building, beauty and rejuvenation food.

10.  Tracy Anderson Streaming: Since I travel so much for work, it is not possible for me to join a gym. I also find it challenging to work out on the road. Now I can stream workouts from Tracy Anderson studio in my hotel room or my home.

1.   Crypter encrypts your Facebook chats for maximum security.

2.   How to remove objects from iPhone photos.

3.  How to store tax receipts.

10.  The Wirecutter is a products recommendation site for the best gear and gadgets.

In part 02 of this series, I'm sharing my favorite apps for Instagram.

1.  VSCO: This awesome app has 10 great filters, but I really love all of the features that they have to manually adjust your photo. Exposure, contrast, temperature, you name it! I use VSCO for pretty much all of the photos I’ve shared on Instagram!

2.  Snappseed: The feature that I love the most is its ability to edit specific areas of your photo.

3.  A Color Story: A Color Story is a recent launch from the girls at A Beautiful Mess. The app itself is beautifully designed, but more importantly, it has many amazing editing features! It has real-time sliders for basic editing, just like VSCO and Snapseed, but I actually really like the filters! My favorite filter is Lite Bright, which makes my photos look like I took the time to manually edit them. Perfect!

4.  Whitagram: Want to post a rectangular picture on Instagram without cropping it down to a square? This app lets you upload your photo in its original dimensions, filling in any unused space with white or another color of your choice.

5.  Pic Stitch: Want a collage? No problem. Pic Stitch lets you combine different photos into one main picture and add frames. It offers 32 different collage-style layouts and works with nine different photo aspect ratios. You can also tweak pictures with additional features like patterns and shadows.

6.  Over: The app lets you add text or artwork on top of your images.
