The National Postdoctoral Association Annual Meeting took place March 17-19 in San Francisco.  Consider attending next year's conference in Cleveland!




Graduate Student Appreciation Week starts Monday, April 3rd!  Encourage your mentee's to attend one of the various events planned to celebrate their contributions to the campus community.

GLACIER TAX PREP SERVICE FOR NONRESIDENT ALIENS WHO RECEIVED INCOME FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND IN 2016
Nonresident aliens who received income from the University of Maryland in 2016 have free access to Glacier Tax Prep, provided by the Graduate School. (This software program prepares federal tax forms, but not state tax forms. Most students must file both federal and state tax forms.)

To access Glacier Tax Prep:
1. Click this link: http://apps.gradschool.umd.edu/intltax/
2. When prompted, enter your directory ID and password.
3. Follow instructions on Glacier Tax Prep website.

Users of Glacier Tax Prep with Form(s) 1042-S:
Your Form(s) 1042-S may show Federal tax withheld in Box 7a, or Total withholding credit in Box 10. You should enter that amount from your Form(s) 1042-S in Box 7a in GTP, which does not allow data entry in Box 10.

Conference Opportunities:
Implementation What to Change and How to Change It?

Much has been said and written in the last 20 years about revising the models for graduate and postdoctoral education in the biosciences. In June the University of Colorado and University of Michigan will co--‐host a follow--‐up meeting to discuss implementation of new models, inviting participation of up to 500 stakeholders from academia,the private sector, federal agencies, trainees, and private foundations.

Johns Hopkins Postdoc Retreat 2017
We are having a postdoc retreat on April 12th that we would like to invite you and all College Park postdocs to attend (but must register for in advance). Postdocs are also invited to submit an abstract for the poster session. These can be abstracts from previous conferences, and posters from past conferences can be presented. The abstracts will not be scored, but the poster presentations will be judged by three Johns Hopkins faculty members. We are giving away a visiting scientist award ($250 travel award) to the highest scored poster presentation to a postdoc external to Johns Hopkins that College Park postdocs will be eligible for.

The event is free, but please register by noon on April 7th. Abstracts will be accepted up until this time as well

Transportation@Maryland Workshop
Time: 9am~12noon on Monday, April 3 
Location: Kay Boardrooms, 1107 and 1111 of the Kim Engineering Building
Background: Faculty and researchers across ten colleges at UMD (ARCH, ARHU, BSOS, BUS, CMNS, ENG, JOUR, iSchool, SPH, and SPP) are working on transportation-related research topics. The purpose of the workshop is to bring together this Transportation@Maryland group to: (1) Share information about research expertise and activities in the broad multidisciplinary domain of transportation; (2) Identify opportunities and challenges for multi-disciplinary collaboration; and (3) Discuss what support infrastructure is needed for effective collaboration and develop strategies to pursue such support.
RSVP is not required. All faculty, research staff, and administrators are welcome!
