2/7-2/14 - NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEK - National School Counseling Week 2022 (#NSCW22) is Feb. 7-11, 2022, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Show some extra love to our amazing AES School Counselors, Mrs. Cockman and Mr. Decker this week! 2/14-2/18 - BUS DRIVER APPRECIATION WEEK - The PTA will be surprising our bus drivers and crossing guards with some treats this week, so please join us in letting your bus drivers and crossing guards know that you appreciate all they do to get us safely to and from school! It's been an extra tough year for bus drivers with shortages and dealing with COVID, so let's show them our love!

Tuesday, February 22 is officially TWOSDAY! A fun day to celebrate all things 2s! Join us in wearing Tutus, Ties, or Tennis Shoes, grab a special TWOSDAY bookmark, and look for the sneaky 2s hanging out around the school! The next time a repetitive date like this will show up on our calendar will be 3/3/33, which is when current first-graders will be seniors in high school!

WAKE Up and Read Book Drive
It's time for the annual WAKE Up and Read book drive. WAKE Up and Read is a community coalition made up of 30+ committed organizations working together toward one common goal — improving childhood literacy. AES will be collecting gently used books from February 7th-17th. There will be a box in the vestibule by the front office and one in front of the library.

Thank you to everyone who has donated prizes to the Gotcha program, which rewards students who were "caught" showing great behavior! Each week, the school awards Gotcha prizes to six students and their whole classes, so the need for prizes is ongoing! Please consider sending something from our Amazon list if you can!

ADVOCACY UPDATE
The Wake County School Board voted to cap enrollment at Apex Elementary School starting next year. This change should not impact students currently attending AES, but new students moving to our area would overflow to Penny Road or Baucom Elementary. More information about how this cap will impact AES is coming soon, and you can read more about enrollment caps by scrolling to the bottom of this WCPSS page.
In an effort to reduce the spike of the omicron coronavirus variant, the Biden administration has created a new website for Americans to request up to four free COVID-19 tests per household. The tests should ship via the U.S. Postal Service between 7-12 days after they are ordered via the site. Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order 4 free at-home tests. Be sure to order your tests now so you have them when you need them.
