Another clean up operation succeeded by Opération Saint-Laurent on the shoreline of Domaine Joly-de Lotbinière during Fête du Fleuve event
Quebec City, 4th of july 2022. Stratégies Saint-Laurent and Mission 1000 Tonnes teams have invited citizens at Fête du Fleuve event for a clean up activity on the shoreline of Domaine Joly-De Lotbinière in Saint-Croix. This clean up has been organised in collaboration with Domaine Joly-De Lotbinière and Organisation Bleue. They have contributed to the recruitment of volunteer and for the clean up logistic. The event welcome 15 volunteers and have recolted 50 pounds waste accidentally left on the banks of the river or brought by the tide and the winds. This citizen mobilization allows less debris to end up in the ecosystems of the St. Lawrence, promoting the protection of water quality, fauna and flora.
Opération Saint-Laurent’s goal is to mobilize citizens to participate in a vast clean up operation of the St. Lawrence River’s shoreline. Throughout the year, 20 clean-up activities are carried out. In addition to reducing plastic impact on the water quality, these activities will help mobilize businesses and municipalities to participate in clean-up operations and will reduce their plastic footprint. Moreover, this mobilization also helps to inform the population during the clean-up activities and to raise awareness toward the importance of collecting plastic waste.
The Opération Saint-Laurent project is made possible thanks to the collaboration between Stratégie Saint-Laurent and Missions 1000 Tonnes. They have received a funding of 42 000$ from the EcoAction Community Funding Program. This investment will make it possible to carry out the clean-up projects during the year 2021-2022.
