Eagle River High School
October 2019

Eagle River High School has many great things to celebrate and we are only five weeks into the school year. We just finished homecoming week which saw our Wolves win their second homecoming game in the school’s history. PEAKS scores were recently released and our school saw an increase in science, math and language arts.  I need to give credit to last year’s freshmen and sophomore classes and the teachers who prepared them to do so well.  Eagle River High School will also be receiving an award in February for National Unified Champion School from Special Olympics and ESPN.  This award is based on a strict criteria that our school achieved last year.  Congratulations to the staff and students who made this possible.

We are quickly wrapping up the 1st academic quarter of the year. Quarter grades will be viewable in ParentConnect on Tuesday, October 22nd, just prior to high school parent conferences which take place on Wednesday, October 23rd. Fall conferences provide a great opportunity to sit down one-on-one with each of your student’s teachers to ask how you can best support your student’s learning in that class. I hope to see you there. For specific times and details click HERE.
Please keep the important dates listed in the right column of this newsletter for reference in the next few months.

NCAA Information:
Is your student a junior or senior considering athletics at the collegiate level? Any student who has even the slightest interest in collegiate-level athletics should register with the NCAA Eligibility Center – preferably at the beginning of their junior year of high school. This is required of students who have interest in NCAA-governed athletic programs.
To get more information about NCAA eligibility, go to www.eligibilitycenter.org.
Thank you to athletes, coaches and parents for a fantastic Fall sports season so far!  Tennis, football, flag football, football cheer, and cross country running are wrapping up their seasons with swim/dive shortly thereafter.

Curriculum/Student Services

All of our students in grade 9 and some of our students in grades 10-12 have taken the MAP Growth assessment.
MAP Growth is the ASD benchmark assessment for students in grades 3-9 in reading and mathematics.  Grades 10-12 also take MAP Growth as part of Tier II and Tier III reading and mathematics courses.
MAP Growth is an online assessment tool used for instructional purposes.  MAP Growth is an adaptive assessment that provides each student a personalized testing experience with data that speaks to their individual progress and growth in mathematics and reading. Practice tests and accommodations are available.  MAP Growth will be administered three times per year during the ASD Benchmark windows:  fall, winter and spring.  The benchmark windows for 2018-2019 are:
MAP Growth practice tests are available to allow students the opportunity to become familiar with the types of questions and tools available on the actual MAP Grow assessments such as, the highlighter and calculator.  Practice tests are provided at practice.mapnwea.org and require login information (USERNAME: grow  PASSWORD: grow) to access.

Professional Learning Communities – late start Monday.  Eagle River High School educators are once again engaged in professional learning communities (PLC) on Monday mornings from 7:15-8:00 am.  While students are certainly welcome to arrive early to school and wait in the main commons area, this is a reminder that classes begin at 8:12am, if you student would like to sleep in for a few more minutes!!!
