Eagle River High School
April/May 2019

 PRINCIPAL
TIM HELVEY

Please join me this month in congratulating one of our outstanding Eagle River High School teachers, Clinton Holloway. Mr. Holloway was recently recognized at the Excellence in Education Awards Dinner sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, and Chugiak/Eagle River Foundation. The annual award celebrates the contributions of twelve outstanding educators in our community, all whom are making a significant impact in the daily lives of students and in their schools.

It is the time of year when seniors begin the annual tradition of counting down the number of days left before graduation. It seems like this year has gone faster than most. The beautiful weather, the longer days and  the quick departure of snow has really ramped all of us up. With all of these factors in place it is important to remember the end goal, graduation! Please encourage your students to finish strong in their last quarter of high school.

Attached below this letter is a link to our school's DEED report card provided by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development. Our report card shows Eagle River High School at a 94% attendance rate and less than 1% drop out rate. These are just a couple of highlighted areas in our report card. When I see results like this from our school, it makes me very proud to be the Principal at ERHS. I thank the students, staff, and parents for their endless efforts.

Curriculum/Student Services

As we quickly move through the fourth quarter of the school year, the snow continues to rapidly melt and the sunshine and warmth have returned!!!!  The end of the year is full of exciting opportunities for our students.  Our final music performances and spring sports are all in full swing this time of the year.  Our seniors will enjoy Senior Fun Day at the McDonald Center, finish exams early, and be ready for graduation on May 15th.

As a reminder, regular attendance is paramount this time of the year for all of our students.  Our counseling staff and department chairs are busy working on course requests and building the master schedule for the 2019-2020 school year.  There will be several new course offerings and additional opportunities for students in the upcoming year.

As always, please feel free to send me an email at Hagler_derek@asdk12.org or give me a call at 742-2711 if there is anything that I can do to make your student’s experience more meaningful here at Eagle River High School.
