Why I became an assessor

NI membership numbers are up and applications for our professional Member (MNucI) and Fellow (FNucI) grades are increasing month-on-month.
To keep pace with the increasing number and diversity of applications we are seeking further NI volunteers to train as NI Membership Assessors.

David's Story
David Jury is a Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer, for Wood.

He has been an assessor for the approximately 3 years. Read why David became an assessor.

Mentoring for women in STEM (MentorSET)

Through the Education and Training Committee, the NI and WiN have committed to a programme of mentoring for up to 30 women who work in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) fields in the nuclear industry. The programme is provided by Women in Engineering and Science (WES) and we are able to take 15 mentees now and another 15 by the spring of 2019.

At the same time, we would also like to recruit anyone who is interested in being a mentor. Although WES do provide some mentors these may not necessarily be in the nuclear sector. Mentors can be male or female – mentees must be female.

YGN intro to series achievements

'Intro to'  events are 1-3 day seminars typically with  a site visit and presentations from senior level management. They are designed to provide an overview for nuclear professionals new to that area. This year has seen 5 hugely successful events.

In October the North West Branch hosted the lecture: ‘Making a success of GDA and transitioning to the Wylfa Newydd Nuclear Power Station Project’ in Birchwood Park in Warrington.

The lecture received a great turnout with over 80 industry professionals in attendance.
The lecture was delivered by Dave Watson, Horizon Nuclear Power (Seconded from Hitachi Nuclear Energy).

North East Branch

On Thursday 15th November, the ‘Energy from Fusion’ lecture, organised by the Nuclear Institute North East  Branch took place at Hartlepool Power Station training centre.

The event was kindly sponsored by Assystem, EDF Energy & University of Durham.
