UPDATE #51 SEPTEMBER 2020

MOTORSPORT RESTARTS IN THE UAE

We begin Newsletter 51 with the tremendous news that motorsport has officially received the green light to recommence over the coming weeks and months here in the United Arab Emirates. Under the watchful governance of the Emirates Motorsport Organization, a number of Covid-19 protocols have been successfully implemented to allow a safe restart to the regions on-track action.

We have a busy season ahead of us; The National UAE Procar, Radical Cup & F4 Championships, the International enduro events of the Gulf 12 Hour, the Abu Dhabi 6 Hour and the Dubai 24 Hours. Add into the mix the wonderful new initiative from Ferrari Middle East; the burgeoning Ferrari Club Challenge Middle East and alongside our retail driving experiences, corporate events & trackday clients we look forward to a productive season as we return safely the track.

2020 has been a difficult year for many however as restrictions begin to ease and we look optimistically to the future it's great to finally bolt on the slicks, leave the pit box and head back out into Sector 1!

OSCAR PIASTRI - FIA F3 WORLD CHAMPION

Dragon Racing are immensely proud of 2017 Dragon F4 driver and team friend Oscar Piastri, who recently secured the 2020 FIA F3 World Championship.

Piastri the 2019 Formula Renault Champion and Renault Sport Academy driver showed great composure in the final round of the Championship at the Tuscan Grand Prix, where the young Aussie made an overtake on the run to the chequered flag to secure P7 in the race and ensure that the Championship was firmly in his hands.

Fellow Australian F1 drivers Mark Webber and Daniel Riccardo have both commented on Piastri’s cool and calm approach to his driving along with his excellent racecraft and car positioning, something we saw Oscar cutting his teeth with Dragon Racing here in the UAE back in 2016 & 2017 against Motopark’s Jonathan Aberdein and Logan Sargeant where he battled at the front alongside.

All of the Dragon Racing team wish to congratulate Oscar for his remarkable back to back Championship’s and look forward to following his progress in FIA F2 next year!

2020-2021 ENDURANCE GT EVENTS

Traditionally our region has only hosted two blue ribbon endurance GT and Sportscar events; the Gulf 12 Hours and the Dubai 24 Hours. However, for 2021 an exciting new event has been confirmed at the Yas Marina Circuit - the Abu Dhabi 6 Hours.

Dragon Racing are rightly proud of our track record at the regional endurance classics and will be fielding cars in all three events.

Dragon Racing Team Principal Brad Fincham, “As we announce the official restart of the regions motorsport the time is right to go to market with our offerings for our regions big GT events. The Dragon fleet of Ferrari's and AMG's have had a summer of meticulous workshop preparation and are literally on the button ready to go. We would love to hear from interested parties looking to participate in the UAE over the forthcoming season”.

“As previous class winners of the both the Gulf 12 Hours and Dubai 24 Hours we look forward to adding our name into the record books for the new Abu Dhabi 6 Hours too."

Due to the rescheduling of the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix the trio of regional GT endurance events have been condensed conveniently into a three week window in January 2021;

Gulf 12 Hours - January 7 / 8 / 9
Hankook Dubai 24 Hours - January 14 / 15 / 16
Hankook Abu Dhabi 6 Hours - January 22 / 23
