September 2021 Issue
August 20, 2021

from Vicki...

Dear Friend -

One year ago, in The Canadian Path's September 2020 issue, I ended my letter to you with these words:

“We are living a new ‘outer’ experience, and at the same time, we know that our inner, divine still point is unchanging and reliable. Let’s step forward on that foundation and explore what is coming forth to enlighten us and the world.”

Now, a year later, my invitation to you is to contemplate: what has enlightened us this past year? What has strengthened us both individually and collectively, and brought light into our world?

As we move away from the paradigm of exclusion and separation, how are we being guided to not only explore but jump into a new world that practices and demonstrates our Unity principles of Oneness and Holy/Wholeness?

The affirmation for World Day of Prayer 2021 is: No matter the circumstances, all is well with my soul.

Let’s live the Truth of this! Let’s hold to this and, at the same time, step out of safety and mediocrity. Let’s take an active role in transforming our world!

CONNECTION
Thanks to Unity Canada Treasurer, Sandy Carriere (LUT) who hosted the much-loved Cross Canada Call.  And a shout out to Rev Pat Ball, now retired, for her leadership in keeping these calls going over the years.

Of interest to the group this month was Unity Worldwide Ministries' (UWM) congregational consultant John Wimberly and his presentation at the Unity Convention in June.

His talk, along with that of UWM Executive Director, Rev Shad Groverland, presented a roadmap for Unity that includes updated marketing specifically targeted by demographic and that addresses issues of timely relevance like climate change and indigenous allyship - two issues of particular importance to the young generations.

(At our October Unity Canada Conference, we'll hear from keynote speaker Kike Ojo-Thompson an award-winning Canadian leading light on equity, inclusion and diversity, as well as spending some time on the important topic of Indigenous allyship.)

As someone on our call stated, "We're in a paradigm shift and we can all help shape the future."  Stay tuned for more information about this, however in the meantime, you're welcome to join in as we watch and then discuss the UWM Convention 2021 video, Wednesday, August 25 at 7pm ET.  Contact with Sandy at treasurer@unitycanada.org for the Zoom link.

We did a 'share screen' tour of the new Unity Canada website.  Later this fall, we'll be adding an Events page that will provide links and information re online ministry events.  Note that someone in your ministry will need to take the lead in providing this information to hello@unitycanada.org by the 15th of every month.

Next month, our Cross Canada Call will be hosted by Rev Roxanne Buckle.  Anyone serving in a ministry leadership role is welcome to attend.  If you'd like to receive the Zoom link, please email hello@unitycanada.org

EDUCATION
Blessings everyone!

Back in June, I and many others attended the Unity Worldwide Ministries Peoples Convention.  While virtual, it was wonderful to connect with colleagues from across the kilometers and time zones!

One of the underlying themes was “how do we express ‘Worldwide’?”  Check out our website for a new FAQ which outlines the regions for Canada, the USA, and part of the Pacific - all of which are workable for attending SEE courses, general workshops and other events!

Here in Canada, I believe we’ve made amazing strides in bringing folks together more than once a year!  We’ll be coming together again in the fall for our AGM and virtual Conference, as well as the “Intro to Unity” workshops in October and November.  Many of my US colleagues can’t imagine how we manage to have regular SEE courses across five time zones, and how folks who haven’t met in person (yet), truly feel a part of the greater community.

Recently I had the honour of being part of both the LUT (Licensed Unity Teacher) Leadership week and the Skills Demonstration Seminars (SDS), which are the “LUT Candidate final exams”.  These are part of the credentialling process, and I am further pleased to report that Canada has graduates!
  • Debbie Long (Unity of Mississauga) has completed the Leadership portion and will take her SDS later in the year.
  • Susan Ferrante (Unity of York Region) has completed her SEE portion, and the first of the three weeks of Leadership training.
Congratulations to both of you, and to everyone who is ready to make application to the LUT and Minister (M&RS) programs - we look forward to announcing your acceptance into your chosen path!

Blessings,

Wendy Karr, Licensed Unity Teacher

From the UWM EarthCare Facebook page:
"We are connected consciously and unconsciously with all living beings - angels, bugs, grass, birds, etc.  We all come from the same source and just as one has to soften the land before planting seeds, we must soften our hearts and minds completely before feelings of friendship can grow within ourselves." ~ Acharya Sushil Kumar
