Inaugural Cayambis Concerts Announced
Join us on October 21 and 23 as we showcase world premieres from four of our artists. The concerts will be held in Blacksburg and Roanoke, Virginia. Live streaming of the concerts may even be available via our website.
Our "In the Moment!" concerts will feature music by composers from Mexico, Panama, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Chile and the United States. Most of these works were recently composed and all are intended for a very contemporary ensemble that consists of winds, strings, piano and percussion. Several pieces also include a part for male voice; these will be sung by baritone Tadd Sipes. Cayambis co-owner John Walker will conduct the Sinfonietta.

Our Composers in the News
Carlos Camacho presented a concert entitled, “Rumore e Silenzio” in Panama alongside the Turkish pianist Erberk Eryilmaz. On this program, which also served as the inaugural event of the Panamanian Percussive Arts Society, Camacho gave the Panamanian premiere of the version for marimba of Roque Cordero’s Rapsodia Panameña. Camacho also participated in an interdisciplinary residency, the “Conexión Dracula,” which is an artist retreat for musicians, dancers, actors and painters held in a remote area of west central Panama. Many orchids are cultivated there, one of which is called the "Dracula," because of its resemblance to that legendary figure.
In September, Nicolás Kliwadenko’s pre+post, for bass clarinet, accordion and cello, will be premiered by the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble and in October, his piano piece, abaq, is slated to be premiered in Frankfurt, Germany by pianist Julio Torres. Also, an interview of Kliwadenko was recently published by the British cultural magazine, Don’t Do It. His discussion of a "trans-disciplinary" style is quite interesting.
Federico Núñez won an award in the Eduardo Alemann Ninth National Composition Competition in Argentina. On August 27 he will be presenting one of his compositions at the “vertientes sonoras” conference in Buenos Aires.

Our Composers Take Part in YOA Global Leaders Mission
Carlos Camacho journeyed to South Korea to be part of the YOA-Sejong Dream Tree Orchestra Project that was held at the Sejong Performing Arts Center. Camacho, seen above, served as an instructor. On their August 13 concert, the Sejong Dream Tree Orchestra gave the world premiere of Samuel Robles’s new work for violin and string orchestra, Canto. Ecuadorian Jacob Ormaza played the violin and Ernesto Juárez conducted the orchestra.
