Dramatic autumn sunset on Le Saleve in Haute Savoie, by Caro Blackwell
We shook things up a bit in November, with the photo contest and the online Q&A sessions. I should say that Annette (La Franglaise) shook things up, as these were just a few of the ideas she brought with her when she joined the team last month.  Both ideas were successful and fun!

There were 29 photos of Autumn in France submitted, and all were lovely! Many thanks to all who submitted or voted on the Facebook album. What a beautiful place France is in the autumn! The phenomenal winner crowns this newsletter, "Dramatic autumn sunset on Le Saleve in Haute Savoie," which received 81 votes by the deadline - our heartiest félicitations to Caro Blackwell!  Second and third place winners were Cherry Thatcher and Annabel Lee respectively - very well done to them as well! Since we all had great fun with this contest, we've decided to run another one in a couple months for Winter in keep those cameras clicking, you shutterbugs. :-)

During three Fridays this month, we held online Q&A sessions via the Facebook page so you could pick our brains on real estate, health coverage and moving to France from outside the EU. Merci to everyone who submitted questions, whether on the event page directly or via the email form. The questions ranged from general basics to detailed and tricky, leading to some interesting dialogue. We'll summarize each Q&A event in blog articles over the coming weeks so that everyone can benefit from the reflection.

As 2016 winds down, what better way to beat the winter blues than planning for spring? Renestance is considering hosting an informational seminar for English-speakers in France, but we aren't sure what it should look like. If you like the idea, please give us your thoughts about the content, duration, location, and format in the online survey. If you know of other people who might be interested in attending, please feel free to forward the link ( so they can weigh in, too.

Best wishes for a warm and bright end of the year from all of us at Renestance.

Idiom of the month

"La fin des haricots"

The end of the beans...and all hope. This expression first appeared at the beginning of the 20th century and refers to circumstances so dire that there's not even enough money to buy the cheapest food. "Haricots" were the food staple of the poor, and in prisons and school cantines.
