OPEN TODAY! - 14th RIAL Bilateral Cooperation Call for Proposals 
The 14th RIAL Call for Proposals for Bilateral Cooperation opens TODAY! Delegations have until March 5th to submit their proposals per the Call Guidelines, which are available on the website (click here). On this occasion, the Call will be open only for virtual Cooperation Activities, considering the restrictions on official travel that may continue this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  
We invite all Ministries to submit their proposals!

Virtual meeting of IACML authorities
On Thursday, January 28, the authorities of the Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor (IACML) held a virtual meeting to follow up on the 2018 - 2021 Work Plan, review preparatory activities towards the next Conference, and define RIAL actions and resources for this year.
Among the main results of the meeting were the approval of the schedule of preparatory activities for the XXI IACML in Buenos Aires, and the allocation of RIAL resources for this year's activities, which include bilateral cooperation activities, continued actions on both gender equality and better coordination between education and labor.
The meeting was attended by the delegations of Barbados (IACML Chair), Mexico (former Chair), Ecuador (Chair of Working Group 1), Argentina (Chair of Working Group 2), Brazil, Chile (Vice-Chairs of WG1), Canada, Costa Rica (Vice-Chairs of WG2), as well as the Presidents of COSATE and CEATAL. Delegations from the United States, Guatemala and Uruguay took part as observers.

Minister of Labor of Argentina presents XXI IACML Draft Agenda to the CIDI-OAS

The Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security of Argentina, Hon. Claudio Moroni, presented the proposed Draft Agenda of the IACML, to take place in September 22-24,  before the OAS Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI). 
Under the theme "Building a more resilient world of work, with sustainable development, dignified employment and social inclusion", the Minister stressed that the issues to be considered at the Ministerial are urgent for the construction of fairer and more equitable societies. He noted that the draft agenda began to be discussed at the First Preparatory Meeting in Quito, 2019, and adjusted in 2020 to adapt it to the current circumstances. Minister Moroni's proposal had the support and recognition of the delegations of Barbados, Ecuador, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico and Brazil, authorities of the IACML

Condolences on the passing of Julio Roberto Gómez Esguerra

The RIAL-OAS sends its most sincere condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Julio Roberto Gómez Esguerra, President of the CGT  of Colombia, on his passing. 
With a trajectory of more than three decades in the labor union movement and extensive participation in the OAS-IACML process through COSATE, Julio Roberto was an example of a life at the service of workers. May he rest in peace.  

 
         
 
         
Publication of the seventh edition of the ILO Monitor: COVID-19 and the world of work

On January 25, the ILO published the seventh edition of its "Monitor: COVID-19 and the world of work", which outlined some of the latest findings on the effects of the pandemic in the region. The Americas is the region most affected by the crisis regarding working-hours losses, with an estimated drop of 13.7%.  Within our region, the greatest losses occurred in Latin America and the Caribbean: 16.2 percent, while in North America, the loss is estimated to have been less, at 9.2 percent.  Similarly, unemployment grew by 8.9% in the region, the highest percentage globally.
