Workshop on “Skills for the Future”
was a great success! 
The inter-sectoral Workshop on “Skills for the Future: Coordination between Ministries of Education and Labor” took place in Santiago, Chile, with participation of 18 countries represented by Ministries of Education and/or Labor, international organizations, private sector, academic institutions and representatives from workers and employers. The workshop had excellent presentations and lengthy spaces for dialogue in which attendants could identify good practices and lessons learned to develop the skills for the future, promote life-long learning, strengthen National Qualifications Frameworks and, generally, bring closer together the worlds of education and labor. These efforts are indispensable to face the challenges of the accelerated technological change and benefit from its opportunities.

Latin America and the Caribbean, the region with greatest percentage of female CEOs: New ILO Report 

The region of Latin America and the Caribbean has the greatest participation of women at a directive level, according to the report “Women in Business and Management: The business case for change”, released by ILO on May 22nd. The document, which recovers data from more than 12 thousand businesses, reveals that in Latin America and the Caribbean, 29.7% of the surveyed companies are currently directed by women. In Europe and Central Asia, this percentage is of 23.7%, and on Asia and the Paficic, 19.6%. As one of it main discoveries, the report highlights that most companies agree that gender diversity initiatives have improved their commercial outcomes.

11th ILO Meeting of Caribbean Ministers of Labour took place in Barbados 

The 11th ILO Meeting of Caribbean Ministers of Labour took place in Bridgetown, Barbados, on May 14 and 15th. The meeting gathered 13 Member States and 9 territories to discuss on the next steps towards shaping a brighter future of work for the Caribbean. The Ministers and ILO Director General discussed on topics such as jobs of the future, on how to strengthen labor institutions, and how to improve social sialogue to renew the social contact.
