Preparations advance for the Meeting of the Working Groups and First Preparatory of the IACML 
In partnership with the Ministry of Labor of Ecuador, preparations for the Meeting of the Working Groups and First Preparatory Meeting of the XXI IAMCL, to take place in Quito on December 3 - 5, are well advanced. Ministries of Labor, workers' and employers' representatives and special guests have shown great interest in these meetings. We anticipate three days of fruitful discussion on the Future of Work and the platform economy, child labor, gender equity, labor mobility, compliance with labor laws, among other priorities identified by the IACML in 2017. 
We remind the Ministries of Labor, who have not  yet confirmed their participation, to please do so at their earliest convenience.  Funding to support travel costs is still available.

Ecuador and Colombia cooperate on Labor Migration through RIAL
On October 16 - 17th, experts from the Ministry of Labor of Colombia traveled to Ecuador to provide technical assistance on Labor Migration, with emphasis on attention to returned nationals. The activity, that took place within the 12th RIAL Call for Proposals of Bilateral Cooperation, had the objective of sharing inputs of the Program "Assistance to Returned Colombians " in order to develop a similar program in Ecuador.

Session of the Governing Body of the ILO begins 

The 337th Session of the Governing Body of the ILO began on October 24th. The Governing Body is the executive organ of the organization, and as such, is responsible of making decisions regarding the ILO policies, drafting the International Labour Conference agenda, following up on resolutions and declarations adopted in past conferences, and discussing the Program and Budget to present it to the Conference.

New US Secretary of Labor takes oath  
On September 30th, Eugene Scalia took oath as the new US Secretary of Labor. Mr. Scalia is an attorney specialized in labor law. He has served as Solicitor of the U.S. Department of Labor during the George W. Bush administration and as a labor attorney for the private sector.

Focal points of the ILO Regional Initiative Against Child Labor gathered in Lima 

From October 22 – 25th, the focal points of the Latin America and the Caribbean Free of Child Labour Regional Initiative, which consists of 30 Member States of the region and the ILO as Technical Secretariat, gathered in Lima, Peru, to share advancements and lessons learned towards the fulfillment of Goal 8.7 of Sustainable Development: to end child labor by 2025. 
During the meeting, the Initiative proposed to find new and better ways to strengthen South – South Cooperation, and to agree on the Work Plan 2020 – 2021.
