IACML authorities will have a virtual meeting on February 13th
On Thursday, February 13, the authorities of the Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor (IACML) will hold a virtual meeting to monitor the development of the Work Plan 2018 - 2020, provide guidance on next activities, define the draft agenda (key themes) of the XXI IACML, and review the financial situation of the RIAL.
The meeting will be chaired by the Ministry of Labor and Social Partnership Relations of Barbados, Current Chair of the XX IACML, and will have the participation of the Ministry of Labor of Mexico as the previous Chair, and the authorities from Working Group 1: Ecuador (Chair), Brazil and Chile (Vice-Chairs); and the authorities of Working Group 2: Argentina (Chair), Costa Rica and Canada (Vice-Chairs).
Webinars on the 13th Call for Bilateral Cooperation of the OAS-RIAL were successful
The Information Webinars of the 13th RIAL Call for Bilateral Cooperation took place on January 30th and February 3rd, in Spanish and English, respectively. There was broad participation from the Ministries of Labor, with 16 countries represented through 38 connection points in all the sub-regions of the hemisphere. The Webinar included a presentation on how to prepare a winning proposal and a match-making exercise where participants shared their main topics of interest, resulting in possible partnerships towards the 13th Call.

ILO presents Labor Overview of Latin America and the Caribbean; concerns about rising unemployment

On January 28th, the International Labor Organization (ILO) presented its Labor Overview of Latin America and the Caribbean 2019, where it emphasizes that one of the main issues and concerns is the growth of the unemployment rate in the region. The unemployment rate increased in 9 of the 14 countries of Latin America; on the other hand, in the English-speaking Caribbean countries, unemployment rates dropped by 0.7%.
