And the snow just keeps on coming!

HELLO Snow Bunnies!!
It's time to get to Ruapehu for the best snow in years!  Whakapapa has just passed the 3 metre mark - can anyone remember when we last had 3m of snow!  The mountain looks so different – places where there were gullies just flatten out and best of all RAL has extended the season till Labour Weekend!
Club Secretary, Jane Gilmour’s son who has just come back from varsity week says “good pow pow more plz” he had a massive few days on both Whakapapa and Turoa.   Advice from a long-in-the-tooth bunny, ”ignore the weather forecasts, you have to be there to get the best new powder and those one-out-of-the-box days”, with the whole mountain open and no queues. Check out this Youtube of the Westridge quad chair.
The MOUNTAIN LODGE will be open for the school holidays with Ross and Kevin volunteering as custodians.  Heather and Kevin Frost will be at the Mountain Lodge from Saturday 26th September until Sunday October 4th and can direct people over from the Knoll Ridge Café if required.  Book now and get some days in the highest lodge on the mountain.
Mac and Kevin will host the “President’s Whiskey and Champagne Race” - a revival of the “Downhill Dash”.  For those too young to remember, it’s a dash from the top of the Far West T-Bar to the Downhill Club, at lift closing time.

There will be age group divisions, to be fair.  You could win! The old shield has been dusted off, so wax your skis, get them tuned for speed, and be ready to have your name engraved on the shield for 2015!
The Home Run has been skiable for about two weeks as well.  Just remind people that they need to bring their own food when staying at the Top Lodge.
Mid-Winter Merriment
When:      Saturday 3rd October
Venue:     Mountain Lodge
Come and join us for a “late” mid-winter extravaganza.  We plan on having this event on Saturday 3rd October at the Top Lodge.  It will be different from previous years.  Come see what it is all about.  We are asking people to bring nibbles to share and music that appeals to all.  The main menu will be yours for an extra $10.00 per person.  Well worth the money.  It will be a great night for all.
The Italian night that nearly wasn't.
By Sue Sinclair
We had hoped to have Italian night at the top club as usual however life was a bit too chaotic and with Blair just starting a new job and being full of the flu we were unable to manage it. However with the encouragement of the Shanahan family we agreed to rebrand at short notice to ”Pizza Night at National Park".

So it was, with many offers of dough and enthusiasm from all quarters that we went ahead after one the best days skiing of the year. It was all hands on deck to build fabulous tasty creations while trying just quietly to outdo one another - no names mentioned. However that may be the fault of one too many ‘fantas’ all around. Thanks to Jo for supplying yummy cake and to all who contributed to another fun night with great food. Not sure how we forgot to take photos..... Must have been those ‘fantas’.

HELLO Members, non-members and all awesome snow lovers!

It certainly has been a great season so far and the snow just keeps on coming and thankfully RAL has now announced it will be extending the season at Whakapaka (happy dance!), so keep your calendar open and book your annual leave now.

We have so far held two fabulous events at National Park.  Firstly the Curry Night was as hot as ever with some amazing creations and the taste test really proved the effort our top-notch in-club chef’s went to; well done and thank you to all those that attended!  Our second event was Bernie’s BBQ Bonanza and it was HUGE – huge amounts of sausages, loads of beef, lamb, pork and Bernie’s famous hot wings.  We were at capacity at Natty Park for this event and despite the numbers there were plenty of left overs for the next day – for both breakfast and lunch!
The committee has more events up their sleeves with the promise of a longer season, eg, Labour weekend and onesie night so register your interest and watch this space.
WOOHOO – Its Rugby World Cup time!  For all those staying at Natty Park and want to watch the rugby world cup games, Schnapps Bar will be opening for games that people show interest in – if you're keen on watching particular games and others are on board then you’ll be able to see them live on their big screen!  Check out the details on their Facebook page.  What an awesome combo…, watch the game live then hit the slopes!
I have certainly noticed an increase in the number of bookings we are receiving for National Park, especially in the past week or so which I suspect reflects on the 3m+ base at Whakapapa.  Because of this I would certainly urge everyone to get bookings in earlier than normal – remember, first in, first served – don’t miss out.  As mentioned above, the Mountain Lodge will be open during the school holidays so why not give it a try!.
Just a few housekeeping points to remember.  Heaters are in all rooms in National Park – please double check when you leave that your heater is turned off.  Remember to pick a job from the chore list and vacuum the room you use.  If you notice we are low, or have run out of any stock, please let me know and I’ll endeavour to get us restocked.  I can be contacted daily from 8am to 9pm on 0274-784-863.  If I can’t answer my phone, send me a text and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
Do you know anyone that would like to receive out newsletters?

Anyone can subscribe (members and non-members) so please feel free to pass on this newsletter and let your friends,  family, your company social club or anyone that would like to SUBSCRIBED to our newsletters
And finally from me, it has certainly been fabulous catching up with everyone so far this year.  There is certainly a lot more of the season left so for those who haven’t been to the club yet this year – we all look forward to seeing you soon.
See you soon,
Dion Cruse, Booking Officer
