Some newsletters come easily whilst others I struggle with - no pain, no gain I guess and once I have completed it the end result is always worth the effort!
This one has had the usual tantrums and I almost missed the deadline to go to press!
However, after all of that it's actually been one of the ones I have really enjoyed writing and compiling as the entries are all about friends I really love and it's been a pleasure to write.
Moved by a Mini
On the quest to find a new car the Mini Clubman? should be the one – so please pity Alexander Hardman who has to take this heavy fisted gear cranker and double declutcher for a test drive. He tells me that making life easy is what you want so a Mini Clubman with full bespoke would be perfect! So my thoughts were that I am served by a Pickett style young enthusiast which goes a long way - I did offer him a job as driver/pa.
As his charm is out of character with the usually classic aggressively salesman type at a car showroom so it was an unexpected pleasurable experience.
The test drive via Helmingham Hall was also a good chance to see the garden as part of the tour so a bonus ball as well!
Our latest new ‘Shaftesbury’ Holdall is my most favourite bag - so much so that it will be the first item of Pickett luggage that I have taken for a very long time (I think that proves how long our luggage lasts too!) Alongside this new holdall we have another new canvas holdall this is a classic shaped holdall – slim and lightweight and perfect for putting in the boot of a Mini for a weekend away!
It was a great surprise this month to see that Linley (our friends and lovely neighbours when we were in Burlington Arcade) have now opened a new store at Number 5. The deeper space, compared with other units in the arcade, gives Linley more space to showcase all their products and hero them in a much more deserving presentation. The scheme is based around their stand at Masterpiece and is really elegant – worth a visit and it really adds luxury living to the Burlington Arcade. The Belgravia store is also being refurbished at 60 Pimlico Road and will be open from mid September.
I really do need to learn how to play backgammon given it is one of our most popular games that we sell. So really all I need to do is own one of our ultimate deluxe backgammon boards and find a beautiful Linley table to put it on!! These backgammon boards in the rich colours make for a fun evening and playing.
Caprice 35 year’s old
Le Caprice celebrated becoming 35 years old last week and this can't go unmarked as it has been serving quality food constantly and seamlessly since 1981. Alongside the delicious food is an amazing team of special staff that Jesus recruits and his training is my pinnacle that I hope we achieve here.
So as a celebration it has a capsule menu including its legendary tomato and basil galette, bang bang chicken and of course the Scandinavian iced berries
At my turning of a decade I booked the Polizzi room at the end of the restaurant and had my ten closest girlfriends for lunch.
So many happy memories over many happy years.
It's The Time of Glitterati but with Established Chic
Eating out at the Caprice is always a special treat and it has a sense of occasion so I thought this lightweight elegant stole would be perfect for lunch and this chic ‘box’ bag would complete a glamorous outfit for the evening.
Exclusive Whiskey Tasting
Tullibardine was an interesting afternoon with Alchemy LDN, who were using our shop as a photoshoot location. Tullibardine Whisky is delicious - as is the inspiring team being young and enthusiastic, so just what you need for a luxury brand identity consultant - I adored them!
We managed to get through Tullibardine's core range of six single malt scotch whiskies with the favourite being the 25YO by the team here. The shoot was being done in our luggage and games room and then we sauntered to the Arcade for a few pics and played with some fab watches that looked great in our luxury divided watch box. Everything looked good against the plush plum coloured lining which complemented the whiskey, watches and games - what a perfect afternoon.
If you would like to join Tullibardine's for a whiskey tasting please register your interest email@example.com
After a few glasses of whiskey, a simple game of dominoes might be the better option as the fabulous game of bridge may get a little argumentative after too much of this delicious golden liquid!
It is a great honour when an international concert pianist offers your charity a concert at one of our best concert halls. Ormiston Families are very grateful to Christian Blackshaw for so generously giving his time and his talent on 14th October (sponsored by Hopkins Homes) and Aldeburgh Music are contributing by offering a greatly reduced fee so as to just cover the halls direct cost! Christian has put on a mesmerizing programme and we are looking forward to his only concert at Snape this year. This is due to the fact that he is now world famous and widely acclaimed as one of the best pianists in the world. Therefore he is constantly sought after for international concerts in all the best concert halls, where he has been performing throughout the year.
He was heard on Radio 4’s art programme earlier this year talking about his career and you can read his review and understand what an amazingly talented man he is and one who is now playing the greatest halls around the world.
This green suede washbag is an indulgence of mine that Harriet concedes on. However I am feeling a little unfaithful as I love these new deerskin washbags in all the rich and vibrant colours. Perfect for carrying Oskia's beauty range.
This October we witness another major Mayfair move with the departure of the interior decorating company, Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler from their histo ric showroom, 39 Brook Street, after 72 years to Pimlico Road.
Alas, Bond Street is no longer the traditional centre for the finest in art and antiques, interior design and period Jewellery (even the venerable S.J.Phillips is moving on).
It is an exciting time for Sybil Colefax & John Fowler, like us, a time of regeneration. A house decorated by Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler is very special indeed. Famous for their country house style, today they also design many contemporary interiors as seen in Barbados, Mustique and Marrakech and many other exotic locations they work in.
The new Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler showrooms will be divided into different areas with an emphasis on an open-plan approach. A selection of carefully chosen antiques and contemporary pieces will be for sale, and a range of lighting, upholstery and other items that can be custom-made to order will also be on show. The open-plan arrangement will offer insight into the workings of a thriving interior decoration business. The changing display will give a flavour of what the experienced Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler designers can achieve for clients. Regular exhibitions of paintings, modern and traditional, will add to the picture drawn of English interior decoration at its best.
Our recently introduced table planner forms part of our home collection and has been a huge success - we can also offer a bespoke service as some customers like it to be the same shape as their table or to have a longer one made to accommodate a particular number of guests.
The joys of having a picture frame cut out of one piece of leather means they don't drift apart - it adds to the price but makes up for this with longevity. Again, these can also be made to a certain size or colour as a bespoke option – please contact the bespoke department on firstname.lastname@example.org
