Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) showcases the rich culture and diverse artistic wealth of the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples through an impressive program of more than 20 different events and activities taking place from Wednesday 10 - Sunday 14 July.

CIAF CONVERSATIONS
CIAF Conversations is an interactive forum for leading Indigenous artists and creatives to share insight into their life and practice, enhancing understanding of their work through this rare opportunity for personal engagement with visitors.

CIAF Conversations - 10 Years of CIAF
Friday 12 July - 12.00pm - 1.00 pm

Join Rhoda Roberts in conversation with CIAF’s former Chair Cameron Costello, Helena Gulash former Director of QIAMEA (Qld Indigenous Arts Marketing & Export Agency), Tom Mosby CIAF Chair and Janina Harding CIAF Artistic Director as they discuss the evolution of CIAF.

CIAF Conversations - International Year of Indigenous Language
Saturday 13 July - 12pm - 1pm 

To celebrate the language of Far North Queensland, join Rhoda Roberts in conversation with Nathan Schrieber Gunggay language teacher at Yarrabah State School (speaker of Gunggay language), Syd Bruce Shortjoe Pormpuraaw artist and cultural leader (speaker of Wik Mungkan, Wik Mungkana, Wik Iiyanh, Wik Ngathan, Kugu Uwanh, Kugu Mu’inh, Kugu Muminh, Thayyorre & Bakanh languages) and Leonora Adidi language consultant and advocate (speaker of Kalaw Kawaw Ya language).  

GHOST NET PROJECT
Join Pormpuraaw Art & Cultural Centre artists to learn and participate in the art of ghost net weaving. This collaborative project will embody CIAF’s 1Oth Anniversary and will remain a legacy of CIAF into the future.

GUNGUN WARRUWARRU (CHILDREN’S CORNER)
A children’s art workshop facilitated by talented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists through REACH, inspired by the people, culture and environment.

THANCOUPIE – A LEGACY OF CULTURAL POWER
This year one of the satellite exhibitions will be a tribute exhibition to CIAF’s founding Patron, Thancoupie, Gloria Fletcher AO. The exhibition will be held 5 -21 July 2019, at Tanks Arts Centre, Cairns, showcasing works from the various periods of her career. The exhibition is co-curated by Jenny Isaacs AM and Janina Harding.

Don't forget to head along to the Tanks Art Centre to hear about Thancoupie's Legacy from Jenny Isaacs, a prominent Australian writer, art consultant and independent curator who has had a lifelong family association with Thancoupie, whose career she managed for the over 30 years. Jenny's talk is at 10.30am on Saturday 13 July.
