Focus, focus, focus! With the dark and cold settling in around us, it can be difficult for students to stay focused on school. I’ve often thought that one of the more challenging things to do well in life is to finish strong. At just the time when we near the end of something and feel our enthusiasm waning, life often asks the most of us.
Parents, I hope you will encourage your student to stay on top of assignments right up to the last day of class and to take final exams seriously. At the same time, I hope you will also help your student foster habits that set him or her up for success like getting regular sleep, eating balanced meals, practicing gratitude, limiting screen time, and exercising daily. These were amongst the suggestions from Eric D Boyer, a training coordinator with the UAA Center for Human Development, who spoke to PE and AFJROTC students recently about taking care of their all-around mental, physical, and social health.
In so many ways the last few weeks of the semester are amongst the most critical, and with a little encouragement, we can help our students stay healthy, finish strong, and go into winter break ready for some well-deserved rest and relaxation.
Final exams take place December 20th and 21st.
The PTSO is planning to hand out a nutritious snack item to students as they arrive on campus during finals. They are asking for donations of healthy grab-and-go items like bananas, apples, granola bars, trail mix packets, yogurts, juice boxes and bottled water. They also invite you to volunteer to help distribute these items to students in the commons as they arrive on campus. If you’d like to volunteer, please contact Sharon Harris at email@example.com
. Any nonperishable donations can be dropped off at the main office.
As we finish up the semester, I want to wish everyone in our school community a wonderful holiday season with family and friends. Whether you’re traveling far and wide or enjoying a well-deserved rest at home, I hope your holidays are filled with the joy of the season.
