Eagle River High School
December/January 2018-19

 PRINCIPAL
TIM HELVEY

Eagle River High School Parents and Community;

I had just finished my newsletter for December/January when we had the earthquake.  I am so thankful that our school had no major injuries and our school had minimal damage.  Thanks to our staff for their quick response after the quake and for the care they provided for our students.  Thanks also to the endless amount of support from contractors and to those who volunteered to ensure our school is ready and safe for students.

One thing is for sure, even with the earthquake we are still nearing the end of 1st semester!  This means encouraging our students to complete homework and study hard for finals.  The end of the semester is such a critical time, ensuring students receive needed credits to graduate, and it also determines 2nd semester eligibility for sports.  Finals this year are on the 19th and 20th of December.

Eagle River High School will be teaching Personal Safety lessons in January during English classes. The age-appropriate lesson will be presented in a non-threatening way, along with the skills needed for self-protection. The lesson content is part of the Anchorage School District’s plan to enact the Alaska Safe Children’s Act and will be handled in a sensitive, respectful manner. If you have any questions about the content of the program or if you wish to inquire about opting out, please contact your child’s teacher, or the school office. Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to provide learning opportunities to improve the safety and well being of our students.

Lastly, I want to wish everyone in our school community a wonderful holiday season with family and friends.  Thanks for a great 1st semester.

Sincerely,
Tim Helvey
Principal
