If you dont have access to the internet you can see Vic or Yolanda in the office and they will book a time for you. Interviews are on: Tuesday 21st May 3.15-7.15pm and Wednesday 22nd May 3.15pm - 5.45pm.
With winter approaching it is timely to remind whanau of our winter uniform expectations. Boys may wear black pants and girls may wear stockings/tights under their skirt/skort for extra warmth. Black thermals may also be worn underneath the uniform, out of sight. Please note: track pants are not part of our school uniform.
We are extremely lucky here at Ham West that many whanau gift uniform back to us when/if their child(ren) leave our school. Therefore we may be able to help some whanau with uniform items. We are currently sorting through all our donated items - watch this space!

Hamilton West School Band 2019
We recently held auditions for this year's school band. And with the fantastic level of musical talent we have at Hamilton West, it was very hard to narrow it down and select this year's band members.
Thank you to all who auditioned and congratulations to the successful auditionees:
River Morrison - Drums
Gabe Sales - Keyboards
Elijah Blodwell - Guitar
Cori Solofa - Guitar
Emma Chapman - Vocals
Yesterday we had the Year 1 classes visit the Hamilton Zoo and the Year 5 classes visit the Kiwi House in Otorohanga. Reports from teachers, student and parent helpers were that they were very worthwhile EOTC outings. Thanks to the teachers and parent helpers for making this opportunity available to the students involved.
Mindful Parenting workshop Jo Wall (a school parent) is providing an introductory workshop on Mindful Parenting on Monday, 13th May at 6:30 -8.00 pm in the school library.
Rather than promoting a particular style of parenting, being mindful helps us to have greater awareness of what is happening in any given interaction, for us and for the child. Increased awareness can be a useful step in the process of changing a parenting habit, if we wish to. No judgement here! Additionally the workshop will look at what the Hamilton West children are covering in their ‘Pause, Breathe, Smile’ programme and apply it to parenting skills and strategies.
Come along on the night, or contact Jo Wall with any queries; email@example.com or 021 266 5657
Blankets Needed "Give a Kid a Blanket Waikato" are back, collecting winter warmth for needy local families. If you have any: - blankets - duvets, esp inners - sheets - pillows/slips - children's pyjamas that are no longer needed, please bring them to the school to be redistributed to children that will otherwise sleep cold this winter. Time to declutter! Many thanks.
Your school's families were incredibly generous last year, and we really appreciate you facilitating the collection.
Mr Jesse away for the second half of term 2
For those that don't yet know, I will be playing a role in the multi-award winning Broadway Musical ‘Once’ (Based on the breakout film of the same name)
This is a fully professional production and it is said to be an outstanding and moving show. It is is the only show on Broadway to have music that won the Academy Award®, Grammy Award®, Olivier Award and Tony Award® - making it one of the most celebrated modern musicals in the world.
This does mean I will be absent from school for the second half of term 2 (Week 6 onward) as I will be based in Auckland.
I want to make special mention of and thank Mark for his continued and gracious support of me and my creative pursuits which are wide, varied and sometimes surprising to even me! Without his support and encouragement, this would literally not even be possible. Thank you, Mark.
If anyone is keen to make the trip up to see the show details can be found here:

All money fundraised will go towards supporting any trips, camps and activities that we do outside of the classroom.
Thanks - Intermediate Teachers.
The third payment of $500 is due Friday 3 May.

CHESS CLUB STARTS THIS THURSDAY
We will be starting the Chess Club up again this term, meeting each Thursday lunch time in the back room of the school hall. The club is intended to improve the skills of those who
have at least a basic understanding of the rules of chess already, and who might like to take part in some junior / inter-school competitions in the future. Keen beginners are welcome also, but will be expected to participate in the lessons, when run.
I have designed and commissioned a custom made chess demo/teaching board for the
lessons, which will make things a lot easier to illustrate. We hope to have that ready in 2-3
