Principal Welcome to a new term at Hamilton West School. Lets hope the warm weather lasts. This term we welcome Sarah Fisk to the teaching staff at the school. I caught up with Sarah with her class yesterday and they were all hard at work - see photo below.

Brake Road Safety Week - ROAD SAFETY WEEK 2018 - 7-13 May 2018
This year Road Safety Week focuses on seat belts and distractions, with the theme Belt on, Phone off - Make it a habit. I have asked the teachers to incorporate aspect of the resources provided through Brake Road Safety in their programme next week.

I hope you enjoyed getting your first school report at the end of term 1. The teachers are now preparing to develop the reports covering term 2. One of the great things about the new report is that it can be developed ongoing during the term. I hope you found the covering letter I sent home with the report informative. Our Outdoor Classroom was planted over the holidays as the result of a combined working bee held on the first Saturday of the holidays. We had members of Hamilton Central Rotary, teachers, parents and students there to plant the trees and flowering plants. You will be interested to know the the trees and plants were paid for by a donation from Hamilton Central Rotary, individual Ham West families (and their contacts),a member of our alumni and the Student Council. A big thanks to all those who contributed to the planting. We now need to do some weed spraying, sow some more grass and wait for it to grow. See photos below
On Monday morning a group of us (parents, staff & students) attended a powhiri for Mr O'Donnell at his new school. It was a wonderful occasion, I personally really enjoyed it and I offered our hand of friendship to Gordonton School and suggested we do somethings together as full primary schools in the future. Sport News at Hamilton West School Hockey umpires needed!!
Our hockey season is due to start next weekend. We currently only have one umpire (year 3/4 team). We need an umpire for the two year 5/6 teams and the intermediate team. Sports Fees Sports fees for all winter sports codes need to be paid now as the invoices from the various governing bodies are coming and need to be paid. If you are unsure of the amount please email the office. If you can't pay in full please make an arrangement at the office to pay it off. Bank account details as follows: Hamilton West School BOT 03-1556-0042665-00. If paying by internet banking please make sure you include your childs name and details of what you are paying for.
Manakitanga please folks - teachers and sports administrators have put a lot of time into getting our sports teams organised and are directed by the rules and timelines set for each code. Please show manakitanga when contacting those running our sports programme, we cannot always meet your requests for a number of reasons including closing dates for registration of teams - which requires names of players.
Red Socks The red sports socks have arrived and are on sale at the office - cost $13.50
Mouth guards Mouth guards are for sale in the office- $5.00 - also student councilors will be selling them outside the office tomorrow and Friday, before and after school.
Fair Play at Hamilton West School
Our Fair Play contract is available on the school website and the Leaders of Sport and Mr Penman will talk about our Fair Play expectations at assemblies over the next 2 weeks.

Coaches Managers / parents / players from our sports teams are welcome to send sports reports and photos to the office to be included in the sports section of the newsletter. House Captains will also be undertaking interviews with players to include in the newsletter.
