In this newsletter, you will find out about our upcoming initiatives, including outdoor social distancing signage which will be installed in the next few weeks. Newham becomes the first London Borough to trial the Test and Trace App, the Council has organised webinars for businesses to learn more about this. We also cover the latest guidance from UKHospitality, Central Government and TfL travel advice for businesses and employees, Mayor of London's Back to Business Fund, London Business Accelerator Programme, and more. 
 Social distancing signage installation 
The outdoor floor stickers will be installed within the next few weeks around the Stratford Town Centre. The outdoor stickers will include social distancing requirements and help your customers queueing safely. In order to avoid queues interfering with each other, we are going to use two colours - dark blue and light blue to minimise confusion for users.

Newham will be piloting the new Test and Trace app. Residents in Newham will receive unique codes to receive early access to download the app via email and post. They will be part of a trial which will monitor performance and identify improvements ready for a national launch.

Prior to every resident in the Borough receiving their letter, Newham Council is organising webinars specifically for businesses. Sign up to the following sessions:

  • Mayor of London's Back to Business Fund: The Mayor’s £1m Back to Business Fund offers up to £5,000 in match funding to small and independent businesses through the Pay It Forward London crowdfunding platform. How to apply & more details - here
  • EU Exit Hub -  is a newly launched resource to help businesses to start preparing for before the transition period ends and point them towards the right guidance. 
  • London Business Accelerator Programme - deadline the 31st August at 5pm - intensive 2 month virtual free programme is offered to 30 of the most ambitious SMEs in London. Find more details here
This is a one-off payment of £1,000 to employers that have used the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme for each furloughed employee who remains continuously employed until 31‌‌‌ ‌January 2021. The bonus will provide additional support to retain employees.

As the employer, you will be able to claim the bonus after you have filed PAYE information for Ja‌nu‌ar‌y 2021, and the bonus will be paid from Fe‌br‌ua‌ry 2021. More detailed guidance, including how you can claim the bonus online, will be available by the end of September.
