México, Canadá, Peru, and Argentina participate in RIAL/OAS Bilateral Cooperation Activities
During the past two weeks, the fifth and sixth of the RIAL Bilateral Cooperation Activities scheduled for this year took place. From November 7 to 9, Mexican officials visited the Canadian Labor Program to strengthen their efforts on Occupational Health and Safety, while from November 12 to 16, Argentine experts visited the Ministry of Labor of Peru to exchange experiences on Professional Training and Certification of Labor Competencies.

OAS/RIAL provides training on gender mainstreaming and decent work
Last week, in partnership with the Pan-American Development Foundation (FUPAD), RIAL Coordinator, María Claudia Camacho, provided training to officers from the Department of Social Prosperity of Colombia on gender mainstreaming in labor and employment policies. The exercise included a session on the concept of decent work, by an ILO expert, as well as analysis on the situation of men and women in the labor market, training on specific tools to mainstream gender in development policies, and a presentation on employment and labor market policies, the latter provided by a FUPAD specialist.

OAS and UNHCR present Report on the Rights of Migrants and Refugees in Mexico and Central America
On November 8th, the OAS and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) presented the first report of the Comprehensive Regional Protection and Solutions Report (MIRPS), which aims to defend the rights of migrants and refugees who live or cross the territories of Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Panama, and announced the creation of the Joint OAS-UNHCR Coordination Unit to analyze the progress of this initiative.

ILO's Global Commission on the Future of Work meets for the last time before presenting its report
From November 15 to 17, the fourth and final meeting of the ILO Global Commission on the Future of Labor was held before they present their report, to be published on January 22. This Commission, made up of Heads of State, and experts, will “undertake an in-depth examination of the future of work that can provide the analytical basis for the delivery of social justice in the 21st century”.
