Virtual Meeting of the IACML Authorities takes place
|
|
The Ministries of Labor of Barbados, Argentina, Costa Rica, Canada, Ecuador, Chile, Mexico and Brazil, CEATAL representatives and the OAS Technical Secretariat held a virtual meeting to monitor the compliance of the Work Plan 2018- 2020 of the Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor (IACML).
In this framework, the Technical Secretariat and the Ministries presented the results of last year's Activities, such as the Workshop on Labor Legislation that took place in Costa Rica and the activities of the 11th Call for Bilateral Cooperation, as well as a report on the financial situation of the RIAL.
Likewise, decisions were made regarding upcoming activities. The meeting was chaired by the Ministry of Labor of Barbados as Chair of the XX IACML.

RIAL Workshop on Skills for the Future will take place May 9 - 10 in Chile
As part of the results of the Virtual Meeting of the IACML authorities, participants agreed on the date for the Inter-sectoral Workshop "Skills for the Future: Contributions from the Ministries of Education and Labor," which will take place on May 9 and 10 in Santiago de Chile. Save the date!

RIAL will fund 8 Bilateral Cooperation Activities this year
The authorities of the IACML approved that 8 activities are to be carried out this year within the framework of the RIAL 12th. Call for Proposals for Bilateral, instead of the 7 that were initially agreed upon in the 2018 - 2020 Work Plan. The Call was launched on January 15 and the deadline to submit proposals is February 25.

ILO Global Comission on the Future of Work launches its anticipated report
On January 22, the Global Commission on the Future of Work of the ILO presented its highly anticipated Report, "Work for a brighter future", whose main recommendation is to put persons at the center of the discussions regarding the future of work and the challenges that it entails. The report concludes with 10 policy recommendations for the UN Member States.

Bolivia appoints new Minister of Labor
On January 23, Milton Gómez Mamani took office as Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security of the Plurinational State of Bolivia.
Mr. Gómez has been a union leader of the Trade Union Federation of Mining Workers of Bolivia and the Bolivian Workers' Union.
