RIAL/OAS provides details about Workshop "Strategies to improve compliance with labor legislation"
Invitations and supporting documents of the Workshop "Strategies to improve compliance with labor legislation", to be held on December 6 and 7 in San José, Costa Rica, have been sent. In these documents, participants can consult the conceptual framework and preliminary agenda of the event, as well as logistical details. The Workshop is part of the Work Plan 2018-2020 of the IACML and its objective is to increase knowledge and strengthen the capacity of the Ministries of Labor to improve compliance with labor legislation, and generate public policies that guarantee the effective exercise of labor rights.

ILO and ECLAC publish report: "Environmental sustainability and employment"
In the report "Employment Situation in Latin America and the Caribbean: Environmental sustainability and employment", the ILO and ECLAC discuss the challenges and opportunities that the transition towards environmental sustainability entails for the world of work, highlighting that "environmental and labour standards can often be improved simultaneously "(p.5) .In this respect, they call for decisions to ensure "a just energy transition capable of providing decent work"(p.6)

Mayors and Leaders discussed "Cities and the Future of Work in Latin America"
On October 31 the forum "Cities and the Future of Work in Latin America" took place, where mayors, businessmen and civil society representatives discussed how to address, from a city government standpoint, topics such as 'gig economy', automation, climate change and other upcoming challenges of the Future of Work. The event was organized by the American Quarterly Magazine and the Council of the Americas.

On November 1, Zulphy Santamaría was appointed as Minister of Labor of Panama. Mrs. Santamaria holds a law degree by the University of Panama and served as Vice-Minister since 2014. Throughout her career, she has worked in both the public sector and private law firms.

Ministry of Labor of Colombia announces plan to employ Venezuelan immigrants
Colombia's Labor Minister, Alicia Arango, announced the implementation of a framework through which Venezuelan migrants will have the opportunity to enter the labor market in the country. The Unique Registry of Foreign Workers in Colombia (RUTEC) will allow authorities to know the situation of foreigners in the country and is being implemented after the increase in the migratory flow of Venezuelan citizens.
