"Passage by the U.S. House of Representatives of bipartisan infrastructure legislation is great news for the Gateway Program, for the regional and national economies, and for millions of riders.
With earlier passage in the Senate and President Biden’s expected signature, the bill will put an extra $8 billion into the Capital Investment Grants program providing the bulk of the Federal funding for both the Portal North Bridge and Hudson Tunnel projects. An additional $24 billion in the Federal-State Partnership for State of Good Repair program is an important potential funding source for Gateway Program projects.
Most important, the bill will mean relief for the hundreds of thousands of daily riders who utilize the Northeast Corridor, by finally replacing a delay prone 110 year old one-track-in, one-track-out system with reliable, resilient, 21st Century rail transportation."
