Stonewall's Education Champions newsletter
Hi Fiona

Welcome to your December newsletter. This month, we've got more great examples of best practice from our Education Champions. We'll also be letting you know about other ways you can get involved with the work Stonewall does.

What our Education Champions have been up to:

If you'd like your organisation to appear in this section, let us know and we'll feature a selection of the best.

New GIDS website

The Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) has recently launched a new website.

It features an online referral form which can be used by any professional working with a child or young person requiring support around their gender identity, including GPs, CAMHS, school staff, social workers, support workers and third-party organisations such as LGBT support groups.

Having spoken to GIDS, they are absolutely clear that it is not necessary for a child or young person to have had a CAMHS assessment before they are seen by GIDS.

Faith schools project

Schools can still register their interest to take part in our DfE-funded faith schools project.
The project is targeted at Roman Catholic, Church of England, Jewish and Muslim schools, or schools with a majority of pupils from one of these faiths. It's designed for schools that have not engaged with Stonewall in LGBT-inclusive work before, or have done very little, and is free.
Thank you for all your help in promoting the project – if there are any primary or secondary schools in your area that you think meet the criteria, do encourage them to participate.

Stonewall survey for LGBT young people

Our new online national survey for LGBT young people aged 11-19 is now live. The survey is about what life in Britain is like as an LGBT young person and the information we receive will be reported in 2017.
Thank you for your help promoting the survey so far and please continue to do so – we would like as many LGBT young people to complete it in December as possible.

Education for All conference

Stonewall’s Education for All conference will be taking place on Wednesday 28 June at the University of Birmingham.
The event brings together hundreds of education professionals through a series of panel discussions and interactive workshop as well as a dedicated youth stream for 150 young people.
If you’d like more information, and to register your interest in attending, please visit the website.

Rainbow Laces: make sport everyone's game

This weekend sport turned rainbow in the biggest display of support for LGBT people in sport, in the world, ever.

The scale of support was unprecedented. More and more influential clubs, leagues (including the Premier League), governing bodies, brands and personalities showed they will not tolerate homophobia, biphobia or transphobia.

But on social media hatred and homophobia were rife. Every time a club, player, or anyone else, expressed their support, they met a barrage of abuse. It was a real and constant reminder that the fight is not yet over.

To LGBT sport fans this weekend sent an unequivocal message of support. Thank you to all our Education Champions who helped spread that message. You've shown that together we can make change possible and that together we can achieve acceptance without exception.

You can still bulk order Rainbow Laces at a discount price and share our above campaign video.

Stonewall Season

The inaugural Stonewall Season, in partnership with Visa, was a brand new festival of events hosted by Stonewall and our friends, supporters and partners across Britain during November 2016.
The ten days were a whirlwind of amazing activity, with thousands of LGBT people coming together alongside our allies. More than 80 different events and initiatives took place across 22 different towns and cities to celebrate LGBT life and culture.

Thank you to all those who supported us to create this moment in time. You can register your interest for the 2017 Season, and look back at this year's with our video at the top of this section.

Friends magazine

Friends is Stonewall’s biannual magazine to update supporters about our work, and give an important platform to the voices and individuals affected by LGBT issues.
Take a minute to read our latest issue. It demonstrates the significant impact your support is having in workplaces and across societies, both here and around the world. Please share it with your colleagues and let us know if you have any feedback.
We hope you enjoy the festive season and thank you for your ongoing support. With your help, we’ll continue to work towards a world where every single lesbian, gay, bi and trans person is accepted for who they are, wherever they are.

Kind regards,

P.S. If there is anything else you would like to see in this newsletter, please let us know. We appreciate your feedback and would love to hear from you.
