The results of the 14th RIAL Call for Bilateral Cooperation are out!

The results of the 14th RIAL Call for Bilateral Cooperation, which was open from February 5 to March 15, 2020, were published last week. Over 25 proposals were received involving more than 15 Ministries of Labor, and 5 proposals were selected, as decided by the IACML authorities. The virtual cooperation activities will allow the Ministries involved to exchange experiences and strengthen their actions in the areas of labor relations, occupational health and safety, and the prevention and eradication of child labor.
We congratulate all the Ministries of Labor whose proposals were selected, and thank all those who participated.

Agenda for the XXI IACML approved by CIDI/OAS

On March 30, the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI) of the OAS approved the Draft Agenda of the XXI Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor (IACML), to be held from September 22 to 24 this year in Buenos Aires.

The XXI IACML will focus on the theme "Building a more resilient world of work with sustainable development, decent employment and social inclusion", and will address issues such as the contribution of the Ministries of Labor to the post-COVID recovery; labor equality and inclusion; gender equity; the future of work; intersectoral coordination with education, health and economy; social dialogue; and the institutional strengthening of the Ministries.

Save the date! 2nd Hemispheric Gender Dialogue between Ministries of Labor on Telework and care systems with a gender approach

As part of the actions carried out by the RIAL-OAS in the area of gender mainstreaming, the 2nd Hemispheric Dialogue on Gender among Ministries of Labor will be held on May 26, under the theme: "Telework and care systems for a gender-responsive recovery". This meeting is a follow-up to the Hemispheric Dialogue held last November, in which the gender offices of 29 Ministries of Labor participated. The topic was decided by the gender units of the Ministries, after individual consultations carried out by the Technical Secretariat.

ECLAC publication provides recommendations to extend social protection to informal workers

One of the greatest labor challenges during the recovery will be to mitigate the expected increase in informality. The publication "The Social Protection of Informal Workers in the Face of the Impacts of COVID-19" analyzes this situation and concludes with a series of recommendations aimed at integrating informal workers into the formal economy, taking as a basis the immediate assistance programs that were implemented during the pandemic, articulating hese programs with those implemented by local governments, and adjusting them to address future vulnerabilities.
