2023 CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Seed Testing Research Foundation (STRF) Research Projects
The need for seed quality evaluation research is an extremely high priority. Industry is rapidly innovating, developing new products and expanding marketing strategies. Seed testing procedures need to accurately and precisely evaluate seed quality for the myriad of products available in the marketplace. Our industry strives for uniformity in seed testing and embraces new ways to evaluate seed quality.
STRF is accepting proposals for seed research projects and encourages scientists and technologists who understand the limitations of seed testing to submit a proposal.
The purpose of STRF is to support applied research in seed testing, to promote standardization in laboratory seed testing, and increase the benefits of seed analysis to the seed industry. This purpose is primarily served by STRF funding applied seed testing research projects. Donations, fund-raising efforts, and investment income are used to fund selected projects.
The Proposal Review Committee (PRC) is flexible in the type of research to be funded; however, suggested areas of seed testing research that association members have identified include:
Germination and Dormancy * Seed Vigor Testing * Genetic and Varietal Purity
Sampling and Tolerances * Physical Purity
In addition to standard research proposals, STRF is accepting small-scale research project proposals. These projects can address improving or modifying existing procedures such as new types of germination media or determine the optimum germination temperature for a specific seed kind. These proposals describe short term projects which are relatively inexpensive. For example, a one-year project in the range of $500 to $1,000.
Please consider submitting a standard or small-scale research proposal to improve seed testing standardization and/or improve the evaluation of seed quality for an individual species.
The proposal submission deadline July 15, 2023. Proposals should be emailed to: seedtestingresearch@gmail.com.
The Standard Research Proposal Guidelines and Small-Scale Research Proposal Guidelines are available online (https://analyzeseeds.com/strf/?v=dfd44cc06c1b).
