Principal Kia Ora Whanau
Welcome to Week 6 2020.
Thanks to Gilly Rowling and the Year 5 & 6 team who organised the great Totara Springs camp last week. I also acknowledge the parent helpers - without you we can't run camps like this. The kids have reported they had a great time, which is what it is all about.
Cultural Day Yesterday was our Cultural Day and what a great occasion it was at Hamilton West School. A huge thank you to the community members who supported the day and provided the Diwiali aspect of the celebration. We would like to thank the following people who helped us with Henna, Monali (Shanaya mum), Shobhna (Avishs mum), Navjot ( Nihal & Roops Mum ), Ms Devi, Tarvindar (Angads Mum) and Lilian. Neeharika ( Room 4 ) for creating the Henna designs and helping with Rangoli.
We are also very grateful to Shalend (Shayants dad ) from Curry house, Shiva ( Avishs Dad), Aral (Aryuls dad) and Vijen ( Neeharika & Karthiks dad) who took time off work to prepare lunch.
Our teacher, Margot Atkinson, and our DP Susan Lindsey are sincerely thanked for putting together the great day. Mr Jesse was in his element with the microphone during the assembly - cheers Jessie. See photos of the day below.
Sports Camp 2021
Thank you to those people who have returned slips and paid the deposit for the 2021 Sports Camp. There are still spaces available for any whanau who are interested. Year 7 & 8. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Year 5-8 Athletics Day Porritt Stadium: Our athletic sports are scheduled to be taking place tomorrow after being postponed last week. The great news is the weather forecast is good so all looks set to go. This is the first time we have held our senior athletic sports away from the school and I think the kids will love the experience of a real track and field set up. Thanks to Mr. Drury and Mr. Burr for their organisation of the event.
Pizza - No sales this week due to athletics day at Porritt Studium
Swimming Selection Paige Stringer & Graysen Elliott were selected to swim for Team Waikato at the first-ever TAINUI TROPHY Challenge against Counties Manukau. The top Waikato & Countries Manukau under 13-year-old swimmers swam a series of relays to take the cup.
Fantastic swimming by the Waikato team, it was tight at the end, but Swimming Counties Manukau took the trophy North. The relays were fast, furious & fun with both teams leaving nothing in the pool. See photos below
Palmerston St - road closure
Phase 2 of Palmerston St road closure is underway so Hammond Street cannot be used to gain access to either Anglesea Street or Pembroke Street. You will no doubt have noticed the temporary roundabout has been installed on the corner of Park Terrace, please turn left out of the bus bay and use the roundabout when heading back up Horne Street towards the hospital. It is more important than ever that we keep the traffic flowing through the bus bay, so please don't get out of your car if you are using the bus bay before and after school as we don't need the traffic banking up all the way to the hospital. I have asked the Council and NZ Police to have a presence at the turning bay to help with the traffic flow and we will be putting out signs and monitoring the area as well.
