In Case You Missed Out -

Read on to find out what has been happening since our last issue!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our 2nd annual Kenadi's Karnival and Silent Auction Fundraiser! This year we exceeded even our own expectations by doubling attendance and raising over $60K for an all-inclusive playground destination! Today we are one step closer to making the playground a reality and that is ALL thanks to YOU! To our volunteers who helped with set-up, tear-down, game booths, bounce houses, food tent, entertainment, rides, silent auction and running like crazy - we couldn't have pulled it off without you. To our sponsors - we would be nowhere without your generosity and support. For a full list of all sponsors and volunteers who made this amazing event possible, please visit teamkenadi.com. For all photos and videos from the event, please check out our Facebook page!
And mark your calendars for Kenadi's Karnival for Saturday, June 23 2018! Hope to see you all there!

Kenadi's Birthday Bash!

Tuesday, June 27, 2017 we celebrated what would have been Kenadi’s 9th birthday at Crow Peak Brewing Company with some Brick Oven Pizza, Pale Ale or Jones Soda, a Chocolate Strawberry Cake and country-blues folk music by our friends Rocky Steen-Rolfzen and her husband Jeff Rolfzen aka The Lark and the Loon.

Happy Heavenly Birthday sweet Kenadi Jean!

Special Olympics
On Saturday, May 20, 2017 members of the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation volunteer for the state games at Lyle Hare Stadium.

It was a beautiful day for us to support these dedicated athletes in the Softball Throw, Long Jump, and Races.  We encourage everyone who can to get involved.  Special Olympics offers many ways to take part in a meaningful and positive way.

Volunteer Fair

The Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation was asked to be a part of the Volunteer Fair held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Grace Balloch Memorial Library.

It was a great opportunity to meet representatives from other community organizations and learn about incredible service opportunities happening in our city.

Our foundation would love to have your help at some of our upcoming events like Butterfly Day and BHSU Kenadi Jean Hot Pink Out Basketball night!

Volunteers for Good

On Saturday, June 24, 2017 several South Dakota New York Life agents clocked a total of 66 hours volunteering at Kenadi’s Karnival Fundraiser in Spearfish.

Through their Volunteers for Good initiative they give grants that support the volunteer efforts of teams of New York Life people. The New York Life agents collaborated with the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation to coordinate their volunteer project. This was a fantastic opportunity to get involved and make a difference in the Spearfish community.

A check for $1,242.00 was presented to Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation members at Salem Park which shares the vision of the Kenadi Jean Playground Destination that will accommodate children of all abilities.

Kenadi’s Recipe Korner

Chocolate Strawberry Crepe Cake
Just in case you needed an excuse to eat chocolate for breakfast! Layers of chocolate crepes, hazelnut spread, whipped cream and fresh strawberries make for a cake worthy of any sweets lover.

Create crepe batter by mixing together:

  • 6 Eggs
  • 1½ cups Milk
  • 1 cup Flour
  • ⅓ cup Cocoa Powder
  • ⅓ cup Sugar
  • ⅛ teaspoon Salt
Preheat skillet over medium-low heat. Melt pat of butter in the pan. Add ¼ cup of batter and quickly tilt the pan to form an even coating of batter on the bottom of the pan. Cook until set, about 1 minute. Using a heat-resistant spatula, carefully loosen the sides and gently flip the crepe over. Cook for 1 minute. Repeat with the remaining batter and butter. Set aside with squares of parchment paper between each crepe to prevent sticking.

To create cake:
Place 1 crepe on platter. Spread with nutella, filling, and strawberries. Repeat with remaining filling and crepes, ending with crepe on top. Spread with hazelnut spread and a dollop of whipped cream. Cut into wedges and serve immediately.

Advisory Board Roll Call!
