It has been a busy time since the last newsletter so there is much to report. This month we report on the first sale of a training fleet to the Drummoyne Sailing Club in Sydney, The Skiff Regatta, RS Association news, Aero happenings and much more.
Drummoyne Sailing Club Training Fleet

Taking advantage of the 'Instant Fleet*" offer from Sailing Raceboats DSC have purchased two Visions and four Fevas for their newly formed training academy. The official launch was a great success and all of their planned training programs have been booked out.
This means that they will be earning revenue from the boats immediately, maximising the benefits of the no interest payment plan.

Trailer Trash Talk
Sailing Raceboats offer a couple of different options for trailers and Tom has sourced a new one which is perfect for the RS Aero, Feva or Quba. It costs $1700 complete with a spare wheel.
The trailer is the perfect size for the RS Aero, Feva or Quba.
Compact Sideloader Trailer Model 880GA  c/w spare wheel
  Capacity 544kg,   ATM 440kg. Payload (1200 lbs)   Overall Size 4100mm x 1360mm Tare Weight 89kg
How to load instructions below
The strap has been attached, by the lovely young assistant, and the trolley placed on the trailer spigot ready for loading.
Front view of the trolley attached to the spigot (a short cylindrical projection on the trailer designed to fit into a hole at the front of the trolley)
The strapper, a strapping young lad, now positions himself at the back of the Aero in preparation for the lift.
Bending from the knees, take firm grip of the transom and lift. The Aero and trolley combined are light enough for any sailor to lift
Now take three to four steps to the right ensuring the Aero trolley wheels clear the mudguards. Note: a wheel can be removed prior to loading to reduce the lift height for the vertically challenged.
Lower the boat and trolley onto the trailer, add the rig, boards, sail and secure.
Drive to preferred sailing location and reverse the process.
RS Sailing Association Australia News
The Annual General meeting was held at Black Rock Yacht Club on Saturday 18th April. As the RS Association is growing with the addition of the RS Aero some changes were approved in the structure of the group. The new committee comprises the following people;

David currently sails an RS100 at Royal Brighton Yacht Club in Melbourne.
There is a suggestion that he may be seen on the water in an RS Aero over the winter months at Albert Park Lake.

Skiff Regatta / RS National Results
The weather was most unkind for the Skiff Regatta, with sailing only possible on the Saturday in light, flukey and shifty conditions.
The RS200 and Aero fleet managed to get three races in which was enough for a series. The RS100 fleet of twelve boats had to settle for two races but were delighted to come back the following Saturday to sail another four. The results are below;

RS Aero (Combined Results Aero 5 and 7)
1 - Brian Case 6 pts (7) on a countback, 2 - Ron Ferguson 6pts (7), 3 - Matthew Geake 8pts (7),
4 - Jessica Case (5), 5 - Aurora N.V. (5), 6 - Cliff Stinson (5), 7 - Nannette McCallum (5).

RS 200 - 1st Gary and Jill McClennan 5pts , 2nd Peter Milne and Lara Blasse 6pts, 3rd - Rob and Fiona Ekins 8pts

RS 100 - 1st Paul Tadich 12 pts, 2nd Rickard Ekberg 14 pts, 3rd - David Clancy 15 pts, 4th David Williamson 16 pts.

The RS 100 racing was very close as can bee seen from the results. Paul Tadich and David Williamson had great results for their first ever RS 100 regatta.

In other RS100 news Richard Ekins has just bought a boat after having a couple of test sails which he thoroughly enjoyed. Look forward to tangling with Richard at the top mark soon.

Note: Simon Pluim could not make the second days racing as he was off winning the 'Wind Warrior World Championships'. Details can be found here;
Sailing Raceboats Happenings

Aside from our delight at having Drummoyne Sailing Club take on the mantle of first RS training fleet there has been plenty of other action.

The weekend of March 7/8 Tom and Richard trundled over to Adelaide, remembering to duck as we passed through Nhill. We took over two Aeros, a Feva and an RS 200. The Aeros and the Feva were in constant use by the juniors all weekend.
In addition a sailor from Mildura made the trek down just to try the Aero. He came off the water after mixing it with the Lasers and Finns with a broad grin and cheque for the deposit. We welcome Andrew Giles to the growing fleet of Aero sailors. He picked up the boat, an Aero 9, and will be sailing at Lake Cullulleraine YC, Victoria.

Tom also took the Aero to various clubs for trials which all went well and travelled to Sydney for the inaugural Sail Boat Expo. The Aero was on display on the Sydney Sailing School stand and lots of visitors to the show stopped for a look and to enter the 'guess the weight"  competition, which was won by Travis Thorne.

Chris Kameen of the Sydney Sailing School describes the Aero thus;

For me this boat sits perfectly in the single handed pathway after Optimists and O'pen Bics whilst sailors grow into Laser Radials if they want to go down the Olympic Pathway... (sounds like to many years of hiking and eating pasta and electrolyte drinks to me!  ) or will allow them to grow with the boat and share it with Mum and Dad!"

In other exciting news Brian Case has joined the Sailing Raceboats band of enthusiasts to look after Coaching and Development for the Aero Class. See Brian's profile below.
Brian Case:
RS Aero development coach.

Brian is well know in the sailing world having worked in the industry and at many clubs in Victoria.

He has been sailing an Aero 7 in Geelong and introduced the boat to a group of juniors in his latest "Case Camp" training program.
It was a great success and Brian is looking forward to helping Aero owners, young and old, develop and refine their skills.

Planning is underway to hold a coaching program at Albert Park Lake during the winter, tied in with the Albert Sailing Club winter program. More details to be posted soon.
