Dear Riverside South Resident,

I would like to start by saying thank you to all our volunteers and sponsors for their support during our summer events.
I truly hope you were able to enjoy the nice weather and that your kids had a great first week at school. Please don't forget to check our website and Facebook page so you can see all the events we have planned in September and throughout the fall season.

Urbandale Fun Family Day


Spratt Temporary Road Closure

Spratt Road will be closed to general traffic immediately south of Cambie Road up to future intersection of Borbridge to allow the extension of deep municipal services and extending the urbanization of Spratt Road.The closure is scheduled to commence the first week of September until the end of October 2019. Signage and detours will be communicated as per the City of Ottawa guidelines.

Chorus Park

Chorus Park is a proposed park located at 746 Chorus Drive in Riverside South. Proposed amenities for the park include playground equipment for children from 18 months to 12 years of age, a sand play area, a shade structure, a half-court basketball area, an open play area, pathways, site furnishings and tree planting.Links to drawings of the concept plan and the proposed playground equipment are provided below.

Comments regarding the proposed concept plan and playground equipment were due to the City in the first week of September.

The new Official Plan

The City of Ottawa is inviting residents to provide input into a new Official Plan for the city.  What kind of city do you want to live in? Our opinions matter. Let’s help shape the future of Ottawa.    

The New Official Plan

The City of Ottawa's Official Plan provides a vision for the future growth of the city and a policy framework to guide the city's physical development. In 2019, the City of Ottawa is beginning a multi-year process to develop a new Official Plan. 

This website is also a tool to support residents' engaging their communities in the new Official Plan. Check out the Toolkit section to get a step by step guide for reaching new people in the Official Plan process. 

Five New Polls for OP Feedback

There are 5 new polls for the public to provide feedback through on the Official Plan site. There is a quick poll on each of the 5 Big Moves. The deadline to complete these polls is September 16th. Please take some time to give your feedback to the city.


Adult Basketball Tournament 25+   

Tournament will be held at the Rideauview Community Centre
4310 Shoreline Drive on Saturday, September 14/19 from 10 am to 2 pm.  

Coed teams of 5-6: $50 entry, Individual sign-ups:  $15 entry.  

Winners will receive tickets to watch a Ravens game.

Wellness Fair

This year’s Wellness Fair is for all ages.

You’ll have the opportunity in one spot to speak with or gather information on health, wellness, and physical activities and services

Many of the gardeners are harvesting their vegetables or will be shortly.  

Before they close up for the season the gardeners will get together for a BBQ and review how things went this year.

Safety Procedures

Riverside South Emergency Preparedness Team Update 

Councillor Carol Anne Meehan is a vital member of our team. Our ward councillor is central to our communication network and access to emergency services.  We look forward to working with Councillor Meehan in developing a community based emergency plan. We would be the first community in Ottawa to have this type of emergency response.

Our next meeting will be held at the Rideauview Community Centre, September 10th at 7:30 pm.

As part of our mandate to promote a vibrant and growing community, we want to help our local businesses by creating a network of support and collaboration. 

We had a successful meeting where we discussed the upcoming Wellness Fair event as well as sporting events such as the basketball tournament which is scheduled for September 14th.

We are really excited to announce that our new Business Directory is up and running and that some businesses have already listed their information, We are offering free listing for local businesses.

We are calling ALL LOCAL BUSINESSES (home and/or storefront) to list on our website FREE of charge.  

We also offer various options for advertising, including the length of time you wish to advertise. Costs vary according to the duration and type of feature.  Full details of options and costs can be found here:  it should also be noted that sponsors of Riverside South Community Association are eligible for a free listing in the directory.
