Spring 2016
'Empowering Futures' Grants Awards Night 2016
On a chilly night in mid-July almost 90 members and friends attended Melbourne Women's Fund's second annual 'Empowering Futures' Grants Awards Evening. Opening remarks from our long time supporter Susan Alberti, OAM set the tone for a night of empowering women to give back to our Melbourne community.
Six finalists presented to the voting members and outlined the incredible work and projects their organisations are undertaking. As always, all were deserving of funds, but only two could be awarded on the night.
It was with great pleasure we were able to fund the Aboriginal Family Violence Prevention and Legal Service Victoria the Significant Award for 2016. They will benefit from our $75k grant and we look forward to their progress reports over the next 12 months!
Mirabel Foundation were the worthy recipient of our Nurturing Award of $25k! Congratulations to this amazing organisation, who assist children whose lives are effected by parental drug abuse.
The other 4 finalists each received a $3K cash grant of untied funds as our way of thanking them for their participation in our grant awards process.
We know all the organisations involved were incredibly grateful for the interest and attention on the night, and right through the selection process and would be delighted for any additional support you can offer whether through donations or volunteering or even just helping them to make impactful connections.
2016/17 Grants Committee - call for new members
We are already putting the plans in place for the 2016/17 grants selection process. Thank you to the new Grants Committee Co Chairs - Christine Darcas and Georgia Theodoris for taking on this very important role.
The first meeting will be held on Friday 16 September at CBRE boardroom courtesy of Georgia. The address is: Lev 34, 8 Exhibition St, Melbourne. We would love to hear from any members who would like to join the Grants Committee, even if you can't make this next meeting. Please email Pat at grants@melbournewomensfund.org if you would like to get more involved.
Member Survey Results
Thank you to all the members who completed the recent Membership Survey (57% completed). Each year we ask for your feedback to ensure Melbourne Women's Fund continues to meet its mission of improving the lives of Melbourne's women and families, and meets your needs as a member. We received some wonderful suggestions and helpful ideas.
Here is a typical quote: "I love being involved in the MWF and am so proud of what we have achieved in such a short time. I am inspired by our members, speakers and supporters and feel incredibly privileged to be part of our Circle."

Here is a snapshot of some of the results, further information is provided in the link to our website. Thanks to Kirsten Bartlett for her work in collating and reporting the resulting information.

About choosing impact areas
One of the most important questions we asked you was which causes you want to support in the 2016/17 grant awards. The feedback is summarised in the graph below and as you can see the area of most interest to members was that of 'Family Homelessness'.
You will recall we had an 'inducement' for members to complete our survey with the 'winning' member picked at random for the prize. Congratulations to Beenu Fernando, she will receive the Estee Lauder + companies goody basket valued at $250!  We’ll organise to get her goodies delivered to Beenu shortly.
