A Conversation with Assoc. Prof. Liz Branigan
We were delighted to welcome sixty members and new friends to this very popular MWF event, kindly hosted for us by Perpetual Private.
As always we had a great buzz in the room with members and guests enjoying seeing each other again and meeting new women. Liz Branigan then gave us a very thoughtful and information packed presentation on the 'Landscape of Need for women and families in Melbourne' concentrating on the areas where the need for financial and other support is the greatest, such as the middle years of schooling and indigenous health.
Liz generously provided her PowerPoint presentation to send to our members and friends, as it contained information and links to further delve into this topic. Our sincere thanks to Liz, and to Perpetual Private for hosting another wonderful "Conversation event".
Grants process update
The Grants Committee had its inaugural meeting in late August to start the grants process for our second year - 2015/16. It was a lively meeting attended by most of last year’s Grants Committee members and some new welcome additions.

Anita Hopkins from the LMCF gave a thoroughly engaging presentation on the ‘Vital Signs Melbourne’ research project which helped to clarify areas of need that could be supported by our giving circle.
Katarina and Pat  (Grants Committee Co-Chairs) outlined the administrative tasks regarding the committee including Terms of Reference, objectives, meeting dates and grants approval process. The group then had a chance to put forward ideas and select their focus areas for the grants research and discovery phase.

The next meeting on 30 September will be a progress check to see which organisations (to date) members have researched, as well as provide time to discuss the proposed programs seeking support. Committee members will also receive a list of other organisations suggested as suitable to investigate within our cause areas.
Member profile - Georgia Theodoris
I had come to a time in my life and career when I started to be more interested in giving than getting. Currently working as a Client Services Manager at State Trustees I am also studying for my MBA and will be looking for my first Board appointment after completing a Leadership Victoria induction.
Fortunately I grew up in a family that was happy and encouraging and I wanted in some way to help others to experience a happy, respectful and empowered life. I feel such sadness when I see the situations some women and their children face and I wanted to do something that had a direct influence on improving their lives. After researching unsuccessfully to find an organisation that resonated with me, I thankfully was directed to Melbourne Women’s Fund by my contacts in philanthropic community.
As soon as I read the mission and vision and saw the passion and genuine care that members of MWF resoundingly had for women, I knew I had found what I was looking for.
Since joining I've not only had the great honour to take part in the very first granting night, but I'm now also on the Grants Committee. The most surprising aspect though has been the immense joy and learning experience I have had through meeting members of this giving circle  - truly inspiring, diverse and supportive women. I'm so honoured to be counted amongst them.
