Our wonderful 2015 ‘End of Year’ dinner
Last December, we hosted our second End of Year Celebration at Dansk Restaurant in Denmark House.  It was a fabulous evening attended by over 50 members and guests.  The team at Dansk provided a delicious Festive Buffet which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
A number of our members and Advisory Board contributed to the evening’s success with Melissa Chen providing the beautiful and creative table decorations, Georgia, Carmel and Christina Theodoris did an incredible job selling raffle tickets raising over $600 for our Giving account at LMCF, Carol Mackie drew the raffle with flair and Kristen Bartlett shared some of our exciting new marketing initiatives, including a new member incentive (watch this space!).
One of the many highlights of the evening was when the wonderful Julie Reilly hosted a Q&A; asking a number of our members about why they joined, their passions for giving and their experience with MWF so far.  It was very moving and special to share in these stories and hear about what MWF means to our members. We were also very lucky to have Betty Amsden impart her words of wisdom with the group – she certainly has high expectations for us!
Many thanks to those members who helped organise another entertaining and meaningful event and to those who were able attended and brought friends to our special network.

This will be a timely event taking place just after the Royal Commission into Family Violence is due to release its findings on 29th Feb.

News from 2015 Signature Grant winner:
Women and Mentoring (WAM)
The Signature Grant provided by MWF in 2015, enabled WAM to hire a Project Officer last August to grow their area of work into the western suburbs.
The initial focus was to identify the most suitable base for the new program, by analyzing crime statics and demographic data; including levels of social, cultural, economic and gender disadvantage and current service provision. Additionally, work was done to identify potential sources of referrals, appetite for engagement from Victoria Police, Courts, Corrections and other services, and opportunities to source mentors for the program.
Previously WAM identified that the new program could potentially be based at Broadmeadows and/or Sunshine to support women with matters at these Magistrate’s Courts. In view of funding parameters, High Court appearance numbers and the broad geographic catchments of these Courts, they determined that the program will initially commence in Brimbank, working with women with matters being heard at Sunshine Magistrates Court. WAM will keep us updated as their work plan develops.
Regarding 2015/2016 Membership Renewals
We would like to advise Founding Members who joined MWF between January and June 2015, that they will need to renew their membership for the current financial year. As members are aware, ongoing membership commitment supports our grants program.
To make your renewal as simple as possible here are the two options to choose from:
  • Renew online by visiting LMCF’s site and choosing Melbourne Women’s Fund on their ‘Ways to Give’ page, to make your annual donation
  • Renew using a ‘monthly deduction’ option – this is organised directly with Lonia Catalano at LMCF, please phone her on: 9633 0036, she loves assisting our members!
Members will also receive a Reminder Email about their membership. Any questions? Please contact our new Membership Committee Chair – Agnes Cusack on 0412 234 752 or Gillian 0402 268 330.
Update from the Grants Committee
Following the November 15 Grants Committee meeting, Expression of Interest forms were sent to 13 organisations considered as suitable candidates for MWF Grant funding, in terms of their work with women and families and our mission. They are required to return their EOI information prior to the next Grants committee meeting on 10th February.
At this meeting a short list of organisations will be chosen to submit more detailed information. Potential finalists will be selected and submitted to LMCF's Board for approval to continue as shortlisted finalists.
Members will then have the opportunity to attend site visits to the final 6 organisations, prior to voting at the Grants Decision Event which will be held in July.
Any questions? Please contact Grants Comm.
