Hi <<First Name>>,

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, we are committed to protect our community and our volunteers while staying in touch with each other.

Following a meeting with our Executive Committee this week, we have committed to be an even stronger enabler of connections for our Singapore alumni during these difficult times. We will be launching and moving to virtual / remote events whenever possible. We are also working with other Alumni Associations worldwide and with INSEAD to make available more webinars for our members.

This will allow all of us to stay engaged, educated and connected wherever you are in the world. The online events are free of charge for MEMBERS. We will give you access with a link sent by email after you register for the event.

The team of Alumni Association of Singapore also remains available for 1o1 meetings and conference calls if you need to reach any of us.

Follow our social media pages Facebook and LinkedIn to stay updated. We have over 1,500 members in our Facebook Alumni Group! All of you can participate and start a conversation.

If you would like to send supporting messages or good wishes to our Dean, Ilian Mihov, please direct your messages to Alumni relations team at INSEAD. They are collecting all the support messages.

As a global business school, INSEAD and INSEAD faculty are also leading from the front during the COVID-19 crisis. Professor Phanish Puranam just launched a short online survey to analyse how it is to really work together when we’re apart. It only takes 5 minutes and we'd love your feedback! Listen to Lead (Online version)

Career Development and Lifelong Learning series
Tuesday 28 April 2020, 6.30 – 9.00 pm - online
We prize good self-presentation. We think about how to make the right impression online and offline on:
  • how to frame our arguments in discussions with bosses, peers or clients;
  • how to get our points across in meetings (virtually or live)
  • how to convince or coerce others to do what we want
Sometimes, we even spend serious money on how to be persuasive.

It is understandable. Our workplace is competitive. Research suggests that when others are talking, we don't listen. We are too busy getting ready to speak.

This tendency only gets worse as we get more senior. It is even more apparent when we do it virtually as our presentation is more pronounced. We get distracted with our appearance, technical issues or surroundings.

We fail to listen because we're more preoccupied about our performance. We think our ideas are better than others. So we get into avoidable conflict situations. We miss opportunities to move conversations forward. We alienate others and diminish our team's effectiveness.

When we truly listen, we put our egos aside. We allow space for everyone to understand the situation and one another and to focus on the team's objectives.

The ability to listen attentively and without judgement is one of the most challenging and prized skills for leaders to master.

Empathetic leaders know that listening is critical to form bonds and develop an open environment for creativity and productivity to thrive. Listening reduces conflict and encourages creative problem-solving.

In this 90-minute online workshop, facilitated Anna Ong MBA'09J we will work on both listening and awareness through various improv-based games. We will:
  • Understand personal negative listening patterns
  • Develop the ability to correct the patterns
  • Recognise the patterns in others
  • Cultivate patience in communication
  • Become a better listener.
1. How does this web workshop work? Is this a fancy version of a webinar?
No, this is a remote workshop. Anna will lead and facilitate the workshop in the main room, and you will be breaking out into smaller groups when you share and exchange stories. It is similar to when you go to a live workshop, and you have to break out into pairs.
2. What platform will we be using?
We will use the zoom application for our sessions. You will need to download the desktop application or use the zoom application on your mobile or iPad to go into the breakout rooms.
3. What do I need to prepare?
As this is a remote workshop, you will need a working computer, camera and microphone.

Pricing:
  • Free for members - promo code: lead
  • Non-members and a guest each pay: $30
  • DUAL members and a guest each pay: $30
