Fermented Food News - May 2015

Hi <<First Name>>,

Health Benefits for Fermented Foods - Scientific Evidence

Recently I had the pleasure of attending the Your Health Future: UQ Diamantina Institute Free Public Forum on “Gut Full: The good and bad bugs in our bodies.” There were several "take home" messages from this excellent forum.

  1. The foundation of good health is in your gut.

  2. You are what you eat and so are the bacteria in your gut.

  3. Your current gut microbiome can be shifted by your diet and lifestyle choices. It’s been shown that the effects of changes in your diet and lifestyle affect your gut bacteria in as little as 5 hours - so every positive step is worth it.

  4. A high fibre/plant based diet promotes, sustains and repairs our gut. It has been shown that people who consume a predominantly animal - based diet have populations of microbiota that are linked to inflammatory diseases. This generated a lot of discussion in light of a current popular diet.

  5. You can’t go past including fermented foods in your diet.

This public event was recorded, and you can hear and view the lectures and Q&A session online at this link ...  Gut Full

Fermented foods and eliminating toxins.

Many of us eat fermented foods to replenish healthy gut flora. The latest research which has just come across my desk says that fermented foods can also help your body to eliminate toxins.

Fermented foods with probiotic effects like milk kefir, kefir cheese, yoghurt, labneh and cultured cream and butter assist your body to eliminate toxins, like bisphenols. Interestingly, any fermented cabbage product will also do this and so will the black tea in kombucha.

You may see the bisphenols referred to as BPAs.  Toxins like the bisphenol family are endocrine disrupters. That is, these toxins interrupt the normal functioning of our hormones, by mimicking our own hormones, such as oestrogen and testosterone.

Toxins accumulate in the tissues of animals so consuming raw and fermented fruit and vegetables reduces your exposure.

You can also eliminate the toxic chemicals in your home by choosing safe and effective personal and home care products available from Neways. You can see and purchase the complete range here ... Wellbeing for Life
