December 2017                                                                             Holiday closings and more

New Library Building Update: Not too much exciting news to share except we are  working hard to raise the funds needed for the new building.

We will NOT make our goal needed by the end of year which means we have to review our plans and timeline for building. We do still hope to build, that has not changed; it just may be later in 2018 than originally planned. The library board will be reviewing all options to the building plan and funding and make decisions on how to proceed.

Yes, we are still waiting (somewhat impatiently now) to hear results from a few remaining grant proposals.  In the meantime, if you haven't donated to the building fund, please consider doing so now. We are blessed in that residents have already donated a little over $30,000 to the building fund. For those who keep saying "we plan on giving" , do so soon. Donations are tax deductible.
We will be closed Monday-Tuesday, December 25-26 for the Christmas holiday and also Monday-Tuesday, January 1-2, 2018 for the new year. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year's and safe travels to wherever you may go.
Food for Fines
November 13 -  December 16
We will hold our Food for Fines this year from Nov. 13 - Dec. 16. Anyone with a fine may choose to donate non-perishable food items instead of paying for fines. One item will equal $1.00 in fines. If you donate four items, $4.00 in fines will be forgiven. All food items will be given to the food pantry at the Hemlock United Methodist Church who donates the food to families in our local community. Expired food will not be accepted.
It's that time of year again! We have our boxes out for Toys for Tots and yes, they have toys in them already! Toys must be new and the last day to bring to the library is Dec. 6.

Come check out our Makerspace Station located at the blue table in the Juvenile Section of the library!  This is a self help activity that changes every 2 weeks.  These activities make kids think, learn, and create all while having fun at the library.  This month's activities are:

November 27th - December 8th .......Harmonica

December 11th - December 22nd .....Penny Experiment

December 27th - Jan 12th .....Rainbow Diaper
(this is longer then the 2 weeks because of the holiday closings)

Have some spare time and want to keep the kids occupied?  Come hang out at the library and try out some of the STEM kits.  These kits are available for use at the library anytime, just ask at the counter.  They make noise, light up, and are fun for the kids (adults too)!

Programming (reminder, you do not have to have a library card nor reside in our service area to participate in our activities, both computers and programming are open to everyone).

Drop in Craft: Christmas Family Fun Night is Wednesday, December 14th from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. Registration is REQUIRED so we know how many crafts to have on hand.

Page Turners (our book group) will meet resume in January.

Play to Learn:  Last day for the year will be Monday,  Dec. 11. Look for the "start up date" in the January newsletter. Meets on  Mondays, 9:30-11.  This is for children from birth - age 5.  Parents/children meet up for social time, crafts, and music.

It's MAP time--all year long! Though really, it is available all year round! As everyone begins to enjoy the beauty of living in Michigan, be sure to check out the Michigan Activity Pass at www.michiganactivitypass.info You can search by zip code to find events and locations that participate in MAP; then enter your information to get tickets or discounts on the events you are interested in.
