New Faculty Orientation 2017
 

Research Orientation 2017

On November 7, the Research Office held its annual orientation for faculty new to UD. Attendees heard from Charlie Riordan, vice president for research, scholarship and innovation, who gave an overview of the current status of the University's research enterprise. The event also included a faculty panel discussion, resource partners and an introduction to the Research Office. Argonne National Lab

Argonne National Laboratory's Advanced Photon Source gives researchers access to high-energy X-rays for use in materials science, biology, physics, chemistry, environmental science, geophysical and planetary sciences.

 

UD partners with Argonne National Lab

When national laboratories, with their expansive facilities and amazing capacity, join forces with research universities and their innovative scientists and students, powerful things can happen. A new partnership between the University of Delaware and the U.S. Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory, was announced during the Innovation in Materials Science workshop.

Data Science White Paper Announced
The UD Data Science Planning Committee has released its assessments and recommendations resulting from the workshop held this past May. The comprehensive white paper lays out strengths and gaps in foundations and applications areas and makes recommendations for research, faculty hiring and academic programs. Many of the recommendations are already being adopted and executed by UD.

Responsible Conduct of Research Training
UD will hold this annual in-person all-day training session on January 30, 2018, at the Trabant University Center. Registration will open in December. If you receive NIH, NSF or NIFA funding to conduct research, visit the RO website for details about the RCR training requirements and the options provided to fulfill the requirement.

NIH Plans for Issuing Clinical Trial Specific Parent FOAs
NIH previously announced plans to require clinical trial specific funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) for due dates of January 25, 2018, and beyond. Expect to see these FOAs for select activity codes at least 60 days ahead of the first due date after January 25. Some NIH institutes and centers will join these parent FOAs. More information can be found on the NIH website.

CindyRetirement
Cindy Panchisin, assistant director for research accounting, is retiring at the end of the year. Cindy’s 42-year UD career spans multiple departments including Physical Education, Controller’s, Treasurer’s, Institutional Research, Provost's Office and Research Office. Cindy has been an integral part of the Research Office’s successes, with an unwavering commitment to excellence. She will be greatly missed. Please join the Research Office in wishing Cindy a happy retirement!
