Dear Colleagues,
 
I’m pleased to announce a new pilot program offered by the Research Office in partnership with the colleges. It is intended to support faculty in securing external sponsored research funding by providing up to 20 hours of proposal editing and 5 hours of graphic design support for proposal development. Researchers who have not received federal funding as a principal investigator in the past five years are eligible to participate. The program begins May 1.

Cathy Wu, the Unidel Edward G. Jefferson Chair in Engineering and Computer Science, has been appointed director of UD’s new Data Science Institute. It will engage researchers from all seven colleges at UD.

The Delaware Small Business Development Center (SBDC), a nationally accredited technology business development center, is the business advisory unit of the Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships (OEIP). The SBDC delivers one-on-one technical assistance and educational programs designed to help businesses achieve their goals and gain a competitive advantage. Expert advisors help businesses navigate the path to success by connecting them with the right resources and tools, then guiding them through the obstacles and opportunities that all businesses face.

America's SBDC DelawareSpecifically, SBDC advisors help businesses:
  • Access R&D grants (including SBIR/STTR)
  • Identify funding options and secure financing
  • Commercialize innovative technologies
  • Develop business plans, financial projections, and investor pitches
  • Assess and improve strategic and operational performance
  • Research, target and develop markets for products and services
  • Evaluate business opportunities and identify paths forward
  • Locate and apply for government contracts

From 2015 to present day, the Delaware SBDC has provided assistance to more than 115 tech-based businesses, resulting in more than 15 new tech-based business starts and $48.68 million in equity, loan and grant funding.

Research Administration Conference 
The Research Office will host its annual Research Administration Conference on Thursday, May 31, at Deerfield Golf Club. This day-long event will feature sessions on Concur, UD Financials, Audits, Sub-Awards and more! Prof. Kristi Kiick, deputy dean of the College of Engineering, will deliver the keynote address. Full agenda details and registration information can be found at the link below.
