UD Ranks 12.8 Percentile in R&D Expenditures -- Source NSF Herd Report 2015

The University of Delaware is an engaged community of scholars committed to discovery, open inquiry and the relentless pursuit of knowledge for the betterment of society. The scholarly and educational efforts of our faculty, students and staff have been life-changing and will continue to transform our world.

At a time when public discourse questions the value of research — including the need for public investments in a broad array of disciplines, from the arts and humanities to STEM fields — we, the UD community, stand together to affirm our steadfast commitment to open inquiry, engaging and respectful dialogue, and fact-based decision making. It is in this context that President Assanis, Provost Grasso and I penned “A Commitment to Research” and invited the entire UD community to add their signatures to this institutional reaffirmation of our shared values.

Sincerely,

Charlie Riordan
Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Innovation

HOW MATH COULD
MAKE BONES STRONGER

They may seem rigid and set in their ways, but your bones are actually under constant construction and deconstruction. They give up their nutrient treasures (calcium) to the body and then rebuild in a constant give-and-take sort of rhythm. When that rhythm shifts, bones lose density and strength and become more prone to fracture.

More than 10 million people in the United States live with osteoporosis, and the resulting fractures demand more than $17 billion in related health care each year.

Now two UD researchers and their students have joined forces—applying the mathematical modeling expertise of one to the biological inquiry of the other—to point the way to a promising remedy.

For Research Administrators

UPDATED: Clinical Trials Guidance

The Research Office has updated its website to include key information and detailed guidance for researchers needing to register their studies at www.clinicaltrials.gov. As previously announced, NIH implemented a new requirement that imposes registration and submission of results of NIH-funded clinical trials. All UD investigators with studies already registered are reminded to log in to the protocol registration and results system (PRS) to check on the status of their current registrations and to address any warnings and errors the system may have flagged on those studies. Please contact  the UD PRS administrator at clinicaltrials@udel.edu with any questions you may have.
