Pfizer Vaccination Event for Jane Addams Students

*New!* SPS is partnering with the City of Seattle, Public Health – Seattle & King County, and Seattle Fire Department to host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for students 12 and over who attend Jane Addams MS and Nathan Hale HS.

The vaccine clinics for Jane Addams first dose will be on:

  • Monday, May 17th from 2:00-5:00pm
  • Thursday, May 20th from 9:00am-12:30pm on the Nathan Hale HS field.

Any Jane Addams family may arrive at the vaccination clinic on the Hale field without an appointment. If guardians are with students, you will sign consent on site. If families would like your child to get a vaccination during in-person school hours and without family presence, written consent must be received.

There are two ways to provide consent:

Jane Addams educators will accompany students in Cohort A and Cohort B during in-person school hours whose families provide permission for students to be vaccinated without a parent present. Cohort C students may also get vaccinated without a parent present as long as written permission is brought to the vaccination site.

All school absences due to vaccination are excused as other medical appointments are excused.

Do You Have QUESTSIONS About the Pfizer Vaccine for Children Ages 12-15? Attend the SPS Student Vaccination Informational Meeting, May 15, 10 - 11:30 a.m.

*New!*  This is an opportunity for SPS families to learn more about the Pfizer vaccine for ages 12+ and the upcoming clinics at SPS schools. SPS wants families to have all of the information they need to make a decision about vaccinating their student, especially ages 12+. Thank you to the Seattle Council PTSA for hosting this important meeting. Guest speakers will include Public Health - Seattle King County and the Seattle Fire Department. Interpretation, including ASL, will be provided. Interpretation will be provided in Amharic, Chinese, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

Student vaccination clinics will be held at SPS K-8s, middle, and high schools beginning on May 17.

Links to COVID Information and Daily Health Screening

Here are a few ways to find information about COVID's spread in our communities.  You can do your part to help stop the spread of COVID:  wear a well-fitting mask, wash hands, stay distanced, and get vaccinated if you're eligible!

*New!* Click HERE to find out where to get your vaccine by using the King County Vaccine Locator. Vaccines are now available for anyone aged 12 and up!  Many sites are walk-in and some offer appointments.

Click HERE to find King County's COVID Dashboards.

The Seattle Public School district's Business Intelligence and Health Services teams partnered to design a public-facing dashboard showing confirmed COVID-19 cases at Seattle Public Schools. Refreshed weekly on Mondays, this dashboard disaggregates (dividing data into parts) cases by region, week, and role to provide an understanding of the pandemic across the district.

And...here's the link to the SPS generic Daily Health Screening.

FOJAM  News

*New!* Music at JAMS is supported by our parent led group FOJAM (Friends of Jane Addams Music). FOJAM helps the music directors produce concerts, fund teaching tools and support (like sheet music, specialist music coaches) and make scholarships possible so that all kids can play and be part of the music program if they want to.

Most of the parents on the FOJAM board will be “aging out” with their 8th graders, so we have an immediate need for board volunteers. Being on the board of FOJAM provides an opportunity to hear more about what is happening with the music program at JAMS, and help direct different music related initiatives.  The actual time commitment is small, with monthly board meetings and a chance to shape the music programs.

Without new volunteers, FOJAM will not be able to continue and the music program at JAMS will lose an important supporting partner.

If you would like to find out more, please contact volunteers@fojam.org.

We'd like to invite those interested/curious to join our next FOJAM meeting, please reach out by Tuesday May 18th.

Ballard High School’s virtual musical Spring Awakening rocks with teen rebellion and questioning

The nature of all teenagers is to question their parents. Back in 1890’s Germany, things were no different. Spring Awakening follows three teenagers in a small village who experience the dawn of their own sexuality. They inevitably awaken to both joy and pain, with little direction from the adults around them. The original play from 1891 was so scandalous for addressing sex violence and suicide that it was not staged until 1906. This contemporary production was first staged on Broadway in 2006, with a rock soundtrack by Duncan Sheik.

The cast features 21 BHS students and the play is directed by Shawn M. Riley.

Performance Details
The remaining performances will be live-streamed on May 14 & 15, and begin at 7:30 pm.
