2021/2022 JAMS PTSA Executive Board Introduction

Christina Ellis
President
Hello! I am Christina Ellis. I am mom to a JAMS alumnus, a 7th grader here at JAMS and a 4th grader at Sacajawea Elementary. I joined the board two years ago as Vice-President with a focus on helping to recruit a board that better represents the diverse community here at JAMS and I hope to see that reflected in our PTSA members this year as well. As we enter what will very likely be another challenging year in the midst of a pandemic, I would ask that we remember to show each other patience and compassion. We are all worried about how this year will turn out and how we can keep our kids safe. I look forward to coming together as a community to give our kids a great year despite the circumstances. Please join us at our PTSA meetings and email me with questions, suggestions or concerns.

Sheilah Nath
Vice-President
I am Sheilah Nath, mother of 3, including a new incoming 6th grader at Jane Addams Middle School. I have always enjoyed being hands on and part of raising up the community I live in and work in. When the opportunity to serve in the JAMS PTSA came, I was thrilled to join this team so we can collaborate and work to achieve our common goals including inclusivity, equity, excellence and everything in between.

Chequita Austin
Co-Secretary
I am Chequita Austin and I am a mother of 5 kids. Three of them will attend Jane Addams this year! They are in grades 6th,7th, and 8th. Jane Addams staff has always treated my students well, care about them, and have nurtured them on an individual level. I joined the PTSA because there was a need for representation for minority students. I look forward to learning, growing and bringing new ideas and knowledge to create change for the students at JAMS!

Melanie Jorgenson
Co-Secretary
I am the mom of Jackson, a JAMS 7th grader.  I am a Registered Nurse, and now work as a consultant - mostly from home unless I'm traveling to see a client.  I am an active member of the SCPTSA (former Communications Chair) and was previously an active member and FEAT liaison in the PTA at Olympic View Elementary.  I am passionate about providing (and receiving) clear and effective communication, practicing antiracism, and building community which is why I decided to join the PTSA E-board this year.  I am looking forward to collaborating with our amazing board members this year to help build and sustain a PTSA that supports and represents all our families.

Kim Rakow Bernier
Treasurer
I have a rising 8th grade daughter at JAMS and a 5th grade son at Bryant Elementary. In the past two years, I've been active with the Bryant Elementary PTSA in forming and co-chairing the Equity Committee and on the Nominating Committee. I run my own consulting and coaching practice to support nonprofit leaders and organizations in aligning their purpose and people for impact. I am committed to creating inclusive and equitable spaces and look forward to working with the JAMS PTSA board to continue that work, to deepen my ties with the community, and to hear from YOU!
