JAMS Student Computer Usage Task Force

In an effort to address concerns raised by parents/caregivers in the JAMS community regarding excessive computer access, we are forming a task force made up of parents and teachers to come up with a solution.

The focus of this task force would be:

  1. Collaborative - this task force needs to come up with collaborative solutions that can work for the JAMS community.
  2. Respectful - this task force needs to be respectful of the varied needs across the student population and propose solutions that are inclusive of a multitude of students needs and accommodations.
  3. Reasonable - this task force needs to create solutions that reflect our common goals and reduce unnecessary screen time and internet access.
  4. Safety - this task force needs to keep student safety front and center. Addressing not only the amount of screen time students are exposed to but also the content.
  5. Consistency - this task force needs to focus on solutions that can be consistent across all classroom settings.

The time commitment would be:
Attending a monthly meeting (approximately two hours) in collaboration with the JAMS Tech Team for the next four to five months.

If you are interested in participating, please send an email to Christina Ellis at

The Doublecrosse Lacrosse Club is a non-profit, volunteer driven organization dedicated to growing girls’ lacrosse in Northeast Seattle. We field teams for girls in grades 2 through 8 who live within the Roosevelt HS and Nathan Hale HS boundaries. We are a recreational program and welcome girls of all skill levels – no experience is required to be a part of Doublecrosse! We are committed to teaching fundamental skills, good sportsmanship, and teamwork. Our goal is to support players in gaining confidence and determination to excel on the field and in all aspects of life. We hope our players will want to play in high school, so we help them prepare for the next level.

Registration opens November 1st, with practices starting in February.  Scholarships are available.  See our website at for information about teams, practice days and times, and registration instructions, and email with any questions.

Thornton Creek Snowsports

For a number of years, Mohan (a ski school at Snoqualmie) has offered a 6-week, Friday night ski bus program at Seattle middle and high schools. It isn’t actually associated with the school, but each bus program is loosely tied to a school so that kids ride up and learn with their school friends. This year, the JAMS program is called “Thornton Creek Snowsports” named for the region around the school.

Registration is open now. This is a great chance for new and experienced skiers alike to get consistent lessons and improve their skills at a discounted rate. In past years it filled by late September. And parents, please consider taking on the volunteer coordinator position to move the program forward.
